menstrual cup questions

This is my first period after having DS (he's 13 months old!) And I am using a ladycup. There are a couple of things that I have noticed... don't know if they're normal or not. I hope I don't sound like an idiot here
The first is that the cup seem to sit really high and the end of the stem is past my pubic bone. Plus, my pubic bone seems to be pretty low and prominant, but since I've haven't been in the habit of doing very many vaginal exams, I don't know if that's normal or not. And I'm not intentionally placing it that high, it just seems to naturally move there as I insert it. Plus, the few times that I have tried to pull it lower, it's uncomfortable and I can feel the stem poking me. But the rim is high enough that I can't really reach it. I'm wondering if sitting up that high is normal and I'm assuming that it makes removal more difficult. Although, I haven't had too many problems with removal, I just sort of push it down the same way I assume you would with pushing a baby out (I don't know for sure b/c I had a c/s). Then I can reach the stem to pull it out.
The other thing is that I'm having difficulty getting it to pop open. When inserting it, I put a little lube on just the rim, fold it and then insert. I've been trying to sort of push on the edge where the fold is to get it to pop, and the first couple of times that seemed to work, but the last several days it has ben really tricky and all I seem to be doing is just shoving the thing even further up. (Add to this some pretty painful tendonitis in my wrist that makes bending/flexing my wrist more difficult). So what I've ended up doing the last 2 times is I just get fed up and hope that it's popped open, put on a cloth pad and go. I haven't had any leaks, and it seems to be open on removal, though... so maybe I'm getting it, either that or it's popping open on it's own???
Is this something that just takes practice? Or is there a trick to it?

I don't have a lady cup, but use a diva cup. Mine generally ends up fairly high too. I do the same thing to get it down (kind of bear down and then grab the base of the cup to extract). Have you trimmed the stem? I had to do that or it felt like I was getting poked all the time.

Also what I do to get the cup to pop open is put it in with your preferred fold method. Then I kind of pull it back out partly and try to turn it. Sometimes I have to do this a few times. Once I feel it's opened I push it back in all the way.

It took me about 2-3 cycles to really get used to my diva cup. I love it now.

One thing I do to make sure the cup is open is push it in about halfway, let it pop open, and then push it all the way in. I also find as I move around it will sometimes pop open so after I've inserted it I kind of move my hips around a bit to help it do that sooner rather than later.

Cut the whole stem off! That was so irritating! I haven't had any trouble with removal. I just pinch the bottom of the cup to break the suction and it comes right out.

In terms of getting it to open inside, I just keep turning it or tilting it forward and back and eventually it opens.
