Is it worth the lower home price?

What are the cons of living near the water/sewer department?

It stinks.

Especially on hot muggy nights when there is no breeze (read: all summer in the south)

Some places are worse than others. There is a WalMart in Conway, AR that smells like the nearby sewer field all.the.time, not surprisingly there aren't really any houses in that area. That was a very open area with big fields and no trees.

There are a lot of HUD houses built practically on the other side of a chainlink fence from the "wastewater equilization basin"(not really sure what that is, exactly, but I have a pretty good idea) in this town, and it depends more on the weather, it's a less - constant stench anyway. However there are neighborhoods not far from there, with some trees in-between them and the sewer - and those properties don't seem very stinky. My IL's have some land and it's not too stinky. Guess it depends on the distance and how many trees there are.
