What are your plans for the seder? Just curious how everyone else celebrates. Do you invite lots of friends and family? Or just a few? What are you making for dinner? Do you have any special customs? I'd love to hear them.
Me, I'm hosting seder with my dad. He will grill salmon (on those wood grilling planks yum), and asparugus. I'm making matzo ball soup (some veggie some chicken yikes
lol silly me. no, actually, I'm looking forward to the challenge.), and charoset. My charoset recipe is from Joan Nathan's Jewish Holiday Cookbook, and I love the charoset. Its very simple, apples, almonds, a little bit of sugar, cinnamon, lemon zest, and sweet red wine. My sister won't eat uncooked wine, so I use grape juice instead. I may add some other things, not sure. lol. Its a good classic though. Oh, and I'm making a quinoa recipe of some sort (vegetarian), not sure what. Any ideas? I'm thinking maybe with sauted onions, rice and pine nuts, but without cooking it in broth, it doesn't sound quite exciting enough.....
We invited my dad's sister and brother and their families, his brother and sister in law and my cousin will be out of town though, and his cousin and fam live too far to come on a weeknight for dinner, so only his sister, brother in law, and their daughter (7), me, my 16 year old sister, my dad, and then a friend of my dad who he dated at one point? never met her lol, seems strange to invite an ex, but if he wants, sure. I may invite a friend or two, but I have no clue who I would invite.
Oh, and one thing I'm really looking forward to is that I think we are going to sing "and everywhere shall be called eden once again". Its so short, but I love it. (IIRC, a local congregation I usually attend High Holy day services at sings a longer version, but I cannot recall the other verses, and I can only find one online. oh well.) Of course, thats if I can convince all the non-musical folks who don't love singing as much as I do to sing with me. I have memories of very failed attempts at singing Dayenu, since only two of us were musical, and only one person knew the tune, and I don't speak hebrew and well.... It didn't work well lol. But this is such a simple, short little tune, in english, I think it might work. If not, I'll sing it to people :P
