Hi,
I never planned on child led weaning but it turned out this way because it seems like the right and natural thing to do as we went along. So DD is just over 3.5 years old and has gone down to 1 time a day, bedtime.
She looks forward to it and it seems almost like she's just so happy and even relieved that it is still there for her every night. It's really lovely actually to talk to her about it. I asked her what she loves about nursing and she just smiles and says because mommy milk is the best of anything!
Anyway, it has become extremely painful because I am now pregnant and so I have started just talking to her about how eventually having mommy milk is over and I tell her it is whenever she is ready to be finished. And I told her that whenever she decides it is time, would she like to have something special like a necklace that would always remind her of it?
My grandmother died recently and we have talked many times about how we will always remember her by thinking of how we loved her and I think that has given her the idea of memories being so special.
Anyway, I wonder if any of you experienced with weaning and making it joyful instead of sad could help with some ideas of what kind of necklace would be good for that?
I looked in the search thing and found one place that had a nursing necklace and it had a beautiful nursing mom and baby but I think it would not be a good one for her to wear since it shows the breasts and baby and she wants to wear it to preschool.
So I found this kind in lots of different places http://www.amazon.com/White-Heart-Sh...930597&sr=1-12
and it's pretty cool but I would really like to find one holding the baby/child in a nursing way I guess almost like the new breastfeeding symbol.
I'm trying to be happy about thinking of her growing and moving on but it is difficult too because when I think about her deciding it is the right time, I feel pretty sad because it really is so special for us.
Thanks so much, I'd really appreciate any replies. I guess I'm super hormonal too because I just cry thinking about it.
