Need Ideas ...

Thread Starter
HI there,
I am desperately looking for ideas for a WAHM possibility for me ... there must be something, really. I hope.

I really want to stay home with the kids, and even have a couple of more, but ... I need to make some money plus I need some brain stimulation. I am kind of highly qualified, but still ... no ideas ... breastfeeding dementia maybe or just plain lack of creativity. :

So, I am a qualified doctor, nearly finished my training to be a paediatrician. I just don´t feel like going back to the hospital just now. I did that after the birth of dd, but I wasn´t happy. I hated leaving her plus I had fights with my collagues about working hours 24/7. There is a lack of childcare here in germany and esp at funny hours there are big problems - meaning no childcare.

So back to the question. Do you guys have any ideas for me? I am not really good in anything except being a doctor ... (and I think I am quite alright with being a mom ...)

thanks alot!

Likely below your skill level but how about some sort of triage phone line like the type normally staffed by RN's? I would imagine some of those people work from home.

How about a visiting doctor with phone consultation? A local pediatrician just started this in our area.

Lactation consultant?

Have you thought of becoming a lactation consultant? I think there is a fairly quick route if you are already medically qualified. You can find more information here: http://www.bdl-stillen.de/

That's what I was going to say! I personally would LOVE to have a "Family Doctor," like in the old days when the doctor made house calls. I would even pay higher rates and out-of-pocket. Or, I have a chiropractor friend (chiromama on here, actually) who renovated her basement and now sees clients there. She focuses on mamas and babies and has a play room that the kids can play in while the mamas are getting their work done on them. Plus, her babe can play there too. She does have a childcare provider come and watch her 2yo while she sees patients though.

And on a side note, I totally feel your pain. I am an attorney who stayed at home for two years after law school and couldn't bear the thought of going and getting a job, working 60-80 hours a week in a back office and never seeing my family or even meeting with clients. I slowly came to realize that I could open my own practice based on my own ideals. I really enjoy working with other families, so I opened an estate planning practice with a focus on families with young children. I have a home office, which clients love, and I am making really good money. Marketing myself as a mom who clients can relate to and trust has been a real key to getting the right clients. And all of my clients really like my story of how I came to start my firm. They relate with a mama who wants to do meaningful work and be with her kids.

If you ever need any advice about all this, feel free to ask!
