If you can think of a way to make this name not ugly, you win my undying devotion

OK....so this is one of the frumpiest, most unfashionable names out there (at least it hasn't come back to being popular YET and I'm sure it will be awhile)...and I sincerely hope no one here has this name because I've just insulted you. But its a family name, and if I can think of some way to honor it without actually using it as is, that would be great.

Eunice!

Any ideas? Anyone? Anyone? Even www.behindthename.com couldn't suggest a single variation.

Maybe Eunissa? Not great, but as a middle name?

Have you tried Nymbler?

Oh I had to do this with Almarilla! She is now Ellamarilla and called Ella.

Here we go:

Eunissa (Nissa)
Aunice (Annie)
Eunicelle (Elle or Celle-pronounced seal)
or Just use Eunice and calle her Nice sounding llie neice.

I can't think of anything....I like older sounding names, but Eunice just doesn't do anything for me.

DDC crashing but aI had to tell you the first thing that came to mind when reading this. This is lighthearted too

eunice to come up with another name

on a side note,if you have to use that name you could always call the baby cee-cee as a nickname

*sigh* I'm pretty sure its hopeless, but I thought I'd put it out there! It is a really old fashioned name. Even Nymbler couldn't help. Oh well...I could always give her two middle names, and make that one of them.

I know a Eunice and felt bad for her upon hearing her name.

Even the spelling and "look" of the word is ugly to me.

I can't think of a single thing. Earlier in my pregnancy, I was trying to make Agnes nice in the same way. I couldn't find a good solution for that one, either.

Any German background? How about Junissa? (You-nissa)

crashing your thread... how about Anissa - I know two women with this name - one pronounces it ah-niece-ah, the other says a (hard a sound)- niss- a.

Personally, I don't think either Eunice nor Agnes is ugly. I wouldn't say that either is the most sexy name, either, but... Of course, take into consideration the source of that opinion and the fact that I had every intention of naming my lost baby Euphrates (Euphie) if it was a girl (which is still how I refer to it... I think she was the girl I never got to have).

According to this site, Eunice is more popular than you seem to believe.
There's also "Uni" as a nickname (which I like, but again I'm weird).

Oh, I like that one!

It looks like Eunice means Victorious or good victory. Maybe you could use Victoria?

I think Eulalia (yoo-LAY-lee-ah) is pretty and it's relatively similar.

Good luck

I'm crashing too - I'd go with Nissa.

FWIW, Eunice (usually translated as Younes, or Younasse) is a fairly common boy's name in the Arab world, and I just don't think of it as a girl's name anymore...

Maybe Yuni? It's a Korean name, I think.

I'm not terribly fond of creative spellings, but there's a girl who works at the local supermarket whose name is Younique.

Maybe Younissa?

Just an idea.

My first thought would be the nickname Una (oona) but honestly unless you use it for a middle name I don't really see it as a good contendor. I am of the opinion that there are so many fabulous names to choose from out there that its hard to pick just one. Why pick one that you don't love? Even if it is a family thing.

my DD's first babysitter's name was eunice, and we adored her. so i guess i'm a bit biased. DH and i even considered it for a middle name if we were having a girl.

What were the other names of the "Eunice" relative you are trying to honor?

Maybe they work better?

Otherwise I'd stick it in the middle and not worry too much about it.

A.

I love the name Euni! I also like Eunice too, but I'd use Euni as a nickname then find a beautiful middle name!!
