KKMama - are you still feeling better? I hope your pain conitues to lessen.

Everything is going well on my end, jsut feeling really good and enjoying everday of it because I know all the major discomoforts will start settling in soon.

MOrningdove--
I finally pm'd ya back -- sorry it took me sooo long.

i'll check back later to catch up on the posts here!

MorningDove-yes, acidophilous is fine to take anytime. In fact, in my natural healthcare training, I learned that it's beneficial for most of us to take all the time! Even if we don't have an active yeast infection, just due to the inadequacy of most of our diets, acidophilous helps replenish the healthy flora in our intestinal tracts (keeping the yeasts in our intestinal tract at bay). Many health issues are the result of poor gut health anyway, and acidophilous helps maintain the equilibrium of "good" and "bad" bacteria necessary for happy intestines!

Okay, that's my soapbox for today. (I'm not a doctor - nor do I play one on TV - but I have studied alternative med. for several years as a natural healthcare provider).

Hope it helps!

Hi all. Been checking in daily, but have been lazy about posting.:

Morning Dove-I'm glad that it sounds like you are coming to peace with the tests you have ahead of you. I hope that the palate is intact, and that you have a nice look at your new lil one on the screen!

How are we all feeling? I'm feeling great! I'm getting more energy, and feeling like doing more "projects" around the house. Monday I even dusted the baseboards. :LOL I've decided for the new year I'm going to do a different household task each day, so that I don't always feel so overwhelmed with the housework. So far, so good. Like Mondays are my days to clean showers, sinks, and tubs, and Tuesdays I clean my downstairs floors, etc. I think this is a system I can actually stick to.

Anyone nesting big time? Here the past few weeks I've been really intent on getting things ready for the baby, even though I have 16 weeks left. But this pg has been flying for me, going so much faster than my first. But then again, I don't have time to just sit around and be pg either. :LOL

Hope you all have a great day! Gotta get dh's birthday cake out of the oven!

Hello all!

We're shut down under a foot of snow for the second day here in Portland, OR. Before all of you with REAL winters laugh at us, you must understand that we don' t have the equipment to keep roads running. Plus, most drivers have no practice in this white, slick stuff and just end up causing accidents if we attempt to go out. Also, the temps here keep giving us freezing rain that makes our region an ice rink.

So... It's a snow day again. Woo hoo! I'm sippin' tea, grading statistics projects, and watching the nastiness outside from the comfort of my window. It's making my New Year's resolution to be less stressed for the sake of my wee one, easier to keep.

MorningDove-

I hope you were able to make your hospital visit. I know up here, the hospitals are open, but you can only get to them if you have chains or call a cab. The cab companies will only pick you up today if you have a medical emergency. What an adventure it will be for anyone going into labor in Portland today! ! !

I'm in Portland, too. Snow days are enforced relaxation! I love having my dh at home all day - even if he is working from here, we eat meals together, etc. It's funny you said that about going into labor, Fiddlefern - I have a doula client due very soon and am hoping she doesn't go too early, like this afternoon!

In other news, my dh and I found a house to rent - woo-hoo! We are soooo excited. It's TINY, but we figure the babe will be sleeping with us for a long time, anyway, and it's got tons of storage so we can put everything except the bare necessities away. It's so cute, though, a great location, and the right price. And a big yard! And a washer and dryer! We move Feb. 1st. We have been housesitting for a year so it will be great to finally be in our own place with our own stuff.

My little one is such a kicker. She is moving all the time - especially when my blood sugar gets low and right after a meal. So amazing - I will never get tired of it.

Sarah'sMama - I've been feeling really great (20 going on 21 weeks) too! I went through a huge nesting phase through most of December - but we had lots to do with our apt and to start getting ready for baby so I'm glad we started early.

I'm envying those of you with snowdays!! I want some too!

This pregnancy is flying by for me too. It's different when you think of how far you've come versus how much time is left. For example, I can say I'm 21 weeks, but that means I only have 19 weeks left!! Why that makes a huge difference in how I look at things, I dunno, but it does!

My bra is totally driving me nuts today. I wish I was at home so I could DITCH it! Gah.

Yikes, I am at work and it took me all morning to read the posts for January between work tasks. At least I feel like I am getting some work done rather than spending all day on the internet. I am really feeling down because I am so lazy at work...I am used to being pretty high pressure and focussed and right now I just DON"T CARE. I have no motivation...

My mom is coming here in February and she would like to have a shower then...I will be 26 weeks. I feel odd about it, but it is really important to her. What do you all think?

I have my 20 week u/s is tomorrow. I am a little nervous. We are not finding out the gender and I am hoping that the u/s will not reveal it or anything else negative. I am also so excited to see this little baby. I still can't believe, despite my rounded belly and the flutters, that this is really happening.

Oh, I am not on the list -

Wow, so many of you are moving homes right now. Congratulations on the fresh starts!

Morning Dove - you sound so healthy about the tests you are considering. I hope you get the answers you are looking for.

KKmama - I am glad you are in less pain. I have considered accupuncture in the past and I did find that many had sliding scales....perhaps you can find someone who can work with you should you need it.

pottermama - So sorry about your dog (and the two who will have to leave you). ACL probelms on a four legged friend does not sound pleasant.

Well, I am off to work some more before lunch. Take care all!

Hi everyone! New here.
I'm 20 weeks pregnant with my third child (2 boys aged 5 and nearly 2). I feel a bit slack after reading all the posts as I've only seen my midwife for the first time this week. We'll be having another home birth so I haven't had to go for ultra sounds, blood tests, etc. Actually this pregancy is just breezing past and I can't believe I'm half way already. With my two boys I had really, really bad morning sickness but still had to eat constantly and gained 20 kg each time (about 50 lbs?). With this one I just felt vaguely unwell and have lost my apetite so I'm only just now coming back up to my pre-preg. weight (woo hoo!) though I have no doubt I'll gain 20 kg in the next 20 weeks. I don't want to get my hopes too high it might be a girl but it certainly has been different. This baby is also sooooo calm compared to my boys that kicked like maniacs from about 14 weeks pregnant and are still running around like crazy. I've felt gentle little movements for the last 2 weeks or so.

About the yeast infection thing, I had one last time that lasted from 5 months right up until delivery and he came right on the due date so I don't know that it causes prematurity. I went to the doctor about it (at 5 months) and he said to me "once you've got a yeast infection in pregnancy you'll have it the whole way". I could have killed him for saying that but it turned out to be true in my case (I was really unwell the whole preg. though).

Hope everyone is well!

shortness of breath already???

Hi all! I haven't been very connected to this group lately, SO much going on these days, with the holidays and all! Anyway, I have a question.....in the last couple months, I noticed my breathing getting more and more labored, a shortness of breath. I am pretty much fine when not moving much, but when I get going, especially if I am in a rush, I find myself really catching my breath, and having a hard time. This didn't hapen last time, although I was in better shape. I started out this time a bit over my ideal weight. I do not know if that has anything to do with it. Anyway, I am just concerned, wondering if anyone else is experiencing this? I just turned 5 months, seems a bit early to be feeling this. I can only imagine that it is going to get worse. What about when I go into labor???? Thanks!..Elfmamma

A&L+1, i have my u/s tomorrow too. sooo exciting. we won't find out but i just cannot wait to see tiny fingers waving at me. it'll be another sleepless night for me, i'm so anxious.

been doin' fine so far, no more packpain, thank goodness, but lugging my 24 pounder up three flights is really starting to get hard on me. he can't walk steps yet, well, he can a few, but not up the 3rd floor. and they're so steep and high, his legs are just too short. so i get a good workout everytime we go out...

so i'm gonna be 20 weeks about tomorrow and i too can't believe that soon i'll be counting backwards. time flies with this pregnancy. i need to give in to my nesting attacks soon and get this place ready.

gotta try to get some sleep before my needy toddler wants to crawl under the covers with me...

Welcome babywearingmama - and congratulations!

theelves - I've been starting to get more breathless these days too. Stairs are the clincher. I take them at work every day (and at our apt as well) for extra exercise. It's starting to get tough.
I think it's pretty common. Every woman's body is different and your uterus/baby maybe growing in a way that makes you feel a bit breathless now. Try to sit/stand up as straight as you can to make room for your baby and your diaphram to move. I don't think there's a hard and fast "rule" as to when it can start. Hang in there.

PHEW!! I need to check in more often!

1) On the roll call, yes, I am in fact due w/ #2 (there was a little question mark by that...)

2) I'm glad you ladies posted about how many weeks left....I'm 20 weeks, and so technically thats 20 weeks left but I anticipate going early with this one (watch me say that and then he/she is 42 weeks!!!)

3) I've been feeling this one for well over a month now. He/she has got some STRONG little legs going in there. It's just been in the past couple of weeks, though, that I have felt the full movement....definite arms and legs going.....I'm really just waiting till it's pronounced enough for DH to be able to feel it on the outside.

4) We are seeing very crunchy midwives and decided to get an U/S independantly. I'm a little (just a little) concerned about size...I've been measuring small....so I'd just like to see what things look like. And DH wants to know the sex. This is his first so I figure I'd let him....I didn't find out with my dd and that was great...but I had a VERY strong feeling about her being a her. This one I have NO feeling about at ALL. Just no clue.

5)Shortness of breath YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I've had it for a good long while. That paired with the fact that I look more preg than I am. Chalk it up to my body going into auto pilot on this I suppose.

6) Nesting YES!!!!!!!!!!!!! We actually just MOVED if you can believe that. Mainly because I got so....manic about having my baby in the house we were in that I couldn't stand it anymore. It was an old, drafty, hardwood floored type thing and I decided I wanted carpet, central heat and air, etc etc. I coulnd't see my babe crawling around in that old place but our new place is just wonderful.

And if Merpk checks in...hey! You're my one and only due date bud on the list so far!!!!!!!!!!!

hey every body!
So many new posts it's hard to know where to begin!

I have been nesting like crazy. I get these huge bursts of energy and clean like a mad woman, then crash and sleep! I have been really feeling like I need to purge my household, we have WAY to much stuff!! there is a website in my area called the freemarket where you can post stuff that you want to give away to other families, i feel like i'm taking it over!! If anybody out there is in MN it's twincitiesfreemarket.org. It's great!

Morning dove & Jaqueline-- We take acidopholus everyday to. My husband and I take capsuls, and we have primadopholus/bifido bacteria power that we sprinkle on Frankies food. I agree, everyone should take it.

A&L+1-- I'd say if your mother wants to have a baby shower for ya, then by all means go for it! Hey, If people want to buy Baby stuff for ya, then let them. And who knows you might have fun!

theelves-- I too have been having a little trouble breathing, but mostly after I eat, it seems like there just isn't enough room in there and everything is pushing up on my lungs. I don't think theres anything to be done about it. Just another joy of pregnancy.

Welcome babywearingmama --- we're happy to have you here!

mcsarahb-- congrats on finding a house! I hope it works out for ya!

Sounds like there were a couple of new ultrasounds today, how did they go??

So, Here's a question>>>>
Anybody else having contractions yet? I have been waking up with them in the middle of the night. They aren't painful, like labor contractions, just alot of tightening, and I can feel my uterus from the outside all balled up. My Mw said it's no big deal as long as i don't have a bunch in a short period of time, and they aren't being brought on by exercise that kind of stuff. But I don't remember having them this early with my first pregnancy. Maybe I just didn't notice.
I'm not worried about it-- I know my uterus has a big job to do in a few months and she's just doing her exercises. Just wondering if anyone else out there has noticed any.

Hey mamas!!

Morningdove-I hope for the best outcome with your u/s findings! I've been thinking about you.

Welcome babywearingmama!

theelves-YES! I've been getting shortness of breath and more difficulty breathing just in the last week or so. I'm 20ish wks now to give you a frame of reference. I guess since I keep popping out in the middle, everything is getting all squished up together now, ugh.

frankies_mama-about the early bh's...sure, yeah, you can have them pretty much throughout your entire pg, or rather stretching ligament aches in the beginning and actual bh's later on. I've heard of mamas having them around 15 wks. I know with my 2nd, I had them more painfully and regularly than with my first and that went on for many weeks, and started much sooner in my pg. Keeping well hydrated is a great defense against them, as dehydration brings on contractions (found that out the hard way being 3rd trimester in the summer, ouchies!).

Nesting? HA! My lazy butt hasn't cleaned or prepped a thing. I do actually go thru multiple nesting episodes when I'm pg, though. For me right now, my big thing is the hormones. I swear, I don't know what it is but every pg at about the 5th month, I just get all giggly, and all the time. Everything is soooooo freaking funny. Stuff that would normally make me just crack a smile has me in tears full on belly laughing! I'm certainly not complaining, but it just cracks me up that I crack up over virtually nothing, tee hee hee.

Let's see, what else? Well, I am now at the time that I can have the level II u/s if I want it. I still don't know if I want it or not. I'm not finding out the sex but since I opted out of the quad screen, I kinda wanna see everything else, just for peace of mind. Other than that, things are going great, but I've noticed it takes a little longer to get off the couch than normal, and also, my balance is off a bit too (danged BIG ol belly!!)

Later, mamas!

A&L+1- I would go ahead with a shower, but it's up to you and how you feel about it. My feeling is, babies SHOULD be raised by a village and the shower is one of the few rituals we have in our culture where our community can show us their support. Of course, we don't live in homogenous villages nowadays, and our values can differ greatly from those of the people who come to our shower.

One way I'm hoping to avoid a lot of gifts I don't really want, is I've registered both at a local momma-owned natural baby shop, as well as a few choice things at on-line BabiesRus. I'm guessing we'll still get things that don't fit at all with what we believe, but those can be donated to a local shelter/ hospital/ etc.

As for the unsolicited advice that's also part-and-parcel to a shower, I plan on trying to remember it's the way people show support and care for me, and just smile-nod-ignore anything I feel is unhelpful.

That said, if you really DON'T want a shower, then it may be worth it to you to just say no thanks. Go with what you feel is right. You're the momma.
so i had my u/s today, didn't find out the sex...boy am i proud of myself. i'm kinda dissapointed though, cause the pictures she printed out are just shadowy. o well, i know the baby is healthy and all stats are right on, that's the important thing, right?

i have some nesting attacks, nothing too serious though unfortunately, gotta really move my butt and get going here.

my hormones are still raging and i still have major mood swings. i swear i could kill dh 50% of the time for just being here...sigh...not a good time for marriage right now.

how am i gonna get any housework done when the baby is here? it's hard enough with one, how do you do it with 2? any advice?
jakobmami- i have been super moody too! Yesterday an Insurance company commecial made me start balling my eyes out! how sad is that. then funniest home videos came on and i laughed myself sick for about an hour!
oh well!
As for the housework, don't worry about it you'll be able to manage just fine. You'll get done what needs to be done, and the rest will matter less.

phishmama-- thanks for the info!
