Oprah today: motherhood, mombloggers. Anyone see it?
I would actually like to discuss it briefly, if anyone is interested, I just don't want to blather on at first if no one responds.
Anyone? Anyone??? Nor do I want to register at the Oprah board, nor do I know anyone irl who watches Oprah.
It featued the blogger from www.dooce. com and www.themommyblog.com as well as two authors who wrote this book,
, and some other bloggers.
Overall I found it fairly disappointing in the end. I didn't expect politics and a rally for parental leave and mothers' rights, but I thought it descended into superficiality and laughs about the things you have to let go to make it work. Oprah made some salient points about societies in the past offering more support for women, how multiple generations parented together, how there was community, etc. The only thing the authors really talked about in relation to that was that most moms think they are the only ones who struggle; think everyone else does it all just fine, etc. It just didn't dig deep enough though, imo. But a start I suppose. And I had no idea dooce made 40k a month off of her site. whoa.

It wasn't what I was hoping it would be. It was wonderful how Oprah mentioned how women previously had support raising their children, but that doesn't change things now. It left me feeling empty. Some of the stories were funny, but other stories made me cringe and sad for the little baby crying in her crib while her parents enjoyed wine.
:
I also thought it was interesting how much money dooce made! I personally didn't find her blog that interesting, but I think it's wonderful she and her husband can stay home because of it.
