Possibly Infertile

We have been TTC # 1 scince 12/08. I went to see a OB/GYN in March. My CNMW. (Certified-Nurse-MidWife)

She gave me the oh-so-common speal about TTC for at least one year if you are under 35 years of age. Scince I am only 22 years old, almost 23, I should

be fertile. Or so all the Dr.s tell me. "Oh your only 22, you should have NO problems getting pregnant."

It does not take a expert to realize a person could possibly have a hormonal imbalance. Especially if the condition manifests itself by symptoms of the

persons appearance. (Ex: acne, excessive hair growth = high testostrone levels + insulin resistance = PCOS)

I have seen many Dr.s who always comment on the condition of my skin. They always find it more relevant to point out the fact have cystic acne, over

whatever else I am actually being seen for. ( one went as even far as suggesting accutane and not bearing children )

I did have a very very wonderful Dr. once, she is just the absolute best Dr. i've ever had, hands-down. She unlike many, is a N.D. (Naturopathic Doctor)
What was so great about her was the fact that she did not merely focus on treating me and my health conditions, instead she took a pro-active approach

and tried to get the bottom of what was causing me to have symptoms in the first place. This preventative approach to medicine in my opinion is superior.
She always focused on creating and maintaining wellness through nutrition and exercise, rather then throwing some side-effect laden perscription at me,

"here take this." :barf: : When I was in her care, she actually assumed not only that I had PCOS or at least the phsyical symptoms of the disease, but also

something wrong going on with my thyroid gland. A while later, I was in the ER and they had to a cat-scan of my head and neck to make sure everything was

ok, and they just so happend to catch my thyroid in the process to then discover that I do indeed have thyroid nodules which could potentionally be

cancerous. So by this I say my Dr. predicted a health condition before it was even discovered. Now that to me, makes an incredible Dr.

So I had STD testing done, results came back Negative. Great news. I am now one step closer to getting pregnant.:

I had my very first pap smear done, results came back Normal, no cervical cancer, no HPV, no pre-cancerous cells, one step closer. :

As my Midwife ordered, I went on Cycle Day 3 to get a bunch of Labs done. 5 vials of blood and 9 tests later, I should get some results in about a week.

So here finally comes my hormone levels. And a whole bunch of stuff! Estradiol, FSH, Testostrone, TSH, DHEA, Insulin.
Do I hope for them to be normal?-Yes! Do I think they will be normal?-Unlikely! Am I being too negative?-Possibly!

I have a Dr.s appointment on the 16th with a Endocrinolgist to follow-up on those thyroid nodules.
I should have the lab results before that appointment so he can examine and determine what else needs to be looked at.
Either way i'm not going to give up on TTC. I am gonna get pregnant and have that baby. You just watch.

I see you're charting.. are you seeing temp shifts with each cycle?

I highly recommend a book called Fertility, Cycles and Nutrition. I started taking a vitamin regimen geared towards thyroid function (history of thyroid problems in my family), using the amounts listed in that book. The book itself is good to read, if you'd like to know what vitamins and amounts I was taking, let me know. Prior to taking the vitamins, I had been anovulatory for 6 months. The first cycle after starting the vitamins, I got pregnant.

I also stopped consuming anything with artificial sweeteners at the same time as starting the vitamins, since I read in the book that some women have fertility problems with artificial sweeteners.
