This might be the dumbest question ever asked, but I can't wrap my head around how it works...
I always thought that effacment was describing how far forward, the cervix had come. But, now as I was reading a Bishop's score chart http://www.mybirthbydesign.com/Bishop%27s%20Score.pdf
I am realizing that effacment and position are two different things. (I had to go figure out what effacment was and I get it now)
So, knowing this now, DH did a little exam on me and my cervix is still far back. The baby's head, however, is about a half inch (or closer) from the opening of my vagina. Still with me?? Is that normal?? For the head to be so low and leaving the cervix back? I thought pressure from the baby's head was what effaces/dialates it, so how does it work with no head pushing down on it? Will it need to come forward before I can go into labor, or does it come forward during labor? I do have an appt Thurs. with my midwife, but I just can't stop wondering about it...
Any comments?
THANKS!
