Who has had an experience with measles?

I met with a naturopath today and we were discussing vax. He is completely supportive of my choice not to vax. Just out of curiosity, I asked his opinions on vax and he said he felt that some were important. He feels that there are too many and way too soon, but his children have some vaxs. I asked him which vaxs he felt were important and he said "well, the ones for life threatening diseases...tetanus....measles..."
MEASLES for some reason that threw me for a loop. I have never been afraid of measles.
I can't get my mind off of it now. I called him after leaving to discuss it more with him, but sec said he would be out for the rest of the day and that she would give him the message to call me.
What experiences have you had with measles? My mom said she and all her siblings got it. I have researched it and wasn't even slightly scared of it. To hear a vax questioning dr. say measles is life threatening just has me kind of baffled.
BTW, he is a Defeat Autism Now dr. He is recommended in Jenny Mccarthys book "mother warriors". He is definately not the "I'll pretend I'm cool with your choice until you deny vax 3 times..." guy. We are on the same page about everything else. A brochure for a lecture he is giving says (under list of things that will be discussed):
"*Which vaccines CAN cause autism. "

Anyway, stories about measles please! Anything! Thanks!

Honestly, I barely remember it. I guess I was around five or six, I know I was home from school for a week or so. It was just one of those things that kids got. I am sure just about every single one of the kids I knew growing up had it and I know of no one who had any serious complications from measles and certainly no one died.

My parents both had them, grandma had them...nothing to write home about.

I also take my DS to an ND and he is does not consider measles in otherwise healthy children dangerous at all.

In 1989 there was a bad batch of vax's (according to the ped we went to yesterday) and a lot of kids got measles that year, including my cousin who was 3. I was about 20 at the time and remember it. He had a rash, slowed down a little bit, had a bit of a fever and was over the worst in 3 days, back to normal in a week or less. Really it was barely a blip on the radar!

According to my 70 something mom "...everyone I knew had them (M,M,R) and no one died or had complications."

My mom is the oldest of 7. They all had measles, mumps rubela pertussis chickenpox.

Mom remembers being very photo sensitive and playing with all the curtains drawn. The only VPD she remembers her mother ( and grandmother who lived with them) being scared about was pertussis in the youngest baby who was 6 months old. They took turns sitting up clearing her throat of mucus.

I have an aunt (age 50ish) who got diabetes from the measles at age 4. My family has generally been supportive(don't say anything to me about it) but it has been hard for them since the disease affected them so personally. She has been hospitalized about 100 times for the diabetes (it is so hard to control in children and that was a long time ago). Everyone else I know who got it has been fine.

The Brady's all survived the measles

I had the measles when I was 8 or so. I'm sure all of my siblings (5 of us altogether) had them too, at one time or another. We are all in our 50s and up and still alive.

When I had them we were all living in a two room apartment in Patterson, NJ. We weren't allowed to attend school because we weren't vaccinated, so we eventually moved to NY state and my father commuted to NJ to work. Anyway, all of us kids except for the baby had been sleeping in one room and my parents and the baby were in the other room. My mother put me into their bed and I guess the baby who must have been around 2 was taken care of by my older brother. I remember feeling pretty yucky for a day or two and being bothered by light. And then I was okay again. My little brother and sister didn't catch the measles from me, in spite of the overcrowded living conditions.

My kids had the measles this fall. For us, it was basically like chicken pox, just without the itching and scratching. My oldest, who is fully vaxed, didn't get it, but the others all did, including my then-1 yo. He was the least sick.

Stomach bugs, croup, chicken pox, the flu, hand/foot/mouth were all worse. Measles were a nice break.

I had the measles as a child and at that time our school was actually closed for 2 weeks because everyone seemed to have measles. When our school was reopened not one child was missing.

My dh remembers being sent over to the neighbor's house because they had the measles. He had not yet had them and so him mom thought it a good idea to get it over with.

In those days no one was afraid of measles. That was not even a consept. It was expected that a child got that infection sooner or later. It was considered a rite of passage.

People became afraid of infections when the vaccine was brought on the market along with a lot of scare mongering.

Even doctors now are afraid of normal, benign childhood diseases. They have very methodically been removed from the art of healing and placed into the drug dealing business.

My sister-in-law had the measles as a kid. She was born in 1975 and had been vaccinated. My mother-in-law says she just remembers keeping her in bed and in a dark room. She doesn't say much else about it...like it was no big deal.

Also, a friend of mine has 10 year old twins who were vaccinated with mmr and one of the twins got it!! It doesn't sound like it was anything serious. She tells about her two younger unvaxed boys who NEVER got it even after one drank after his sister. I thought that was surprising. I wonder if the boys have immunity now?

Do you have pics of the rash? I think my 2 yr old just had the measles but I couldn't find anything online that even sounded like what it was till your post. Ds had a very slight fever and some swollen lymph nodes in his neck. He got a rash on his face, arms, legs and a bit on his midsection. It didn't scratch or itch. It was very close little red raised bumps. Kinda reminded me of scarlet fever just the bumps were bigger and not all over the body. I couldn't figure out what it was, and it went away in less than a week.

My parents and all their siblings had measles (and mumps, rubella, chicken pox, yada yada yada) and they don't even remember it. My mom said she had it the same time she had rubella and had to stay inside but doesn't remember it bothering her or if it itched or if she was actually sick. And its not that she has a bad memory. She will tell you how awful heat stroke is so it must not have been that bad.

Two friends of mine, born 1952 and 1960, both had measles. We talked about it recently and they don't even recall it as being so bad. No complications or anything.
