Dyeing prefolds?

I bought some white used prefolds, and was thinking of dying them. Is it possible to dye them pastel colors or only bright ones? Also, what is the best kind of dye to use?

I have dyed my cloth bright purple sunhine orange and baby pink

Looked great.

I used "RIT"? Whatever they sell in the laundry section at walmart. I ued extra salt and let it it twice as long. We have really hard water and the fabric i thicker than what I think the stuff i usally used for...

I used dylon, I think. It's been about 9 months and they still look great.

If you are dying just one set I would use the dylon or rit.

I've dyed lots of dapers- but be sure to use Dylon, the RIT takes forever before it stops running.

Where do you get Dylon?

I used Dylon to dye the prefolds below and they came out great. Just use a smaller amount of water and soak them for longer if you want brighter colors.

Just follow the package instructions - I had no problems with bleeding at all - they still look great! The colors would probably be even brighter on white prefolds - these were unbleached to start with.

I love the dyed diapers that I have. I used the toddler sized ones as burp cloths while babe was small and they got tons of compliments.

just one question..

I love the idea of dying prefolds! I really want to try. But Im wondering, the prefolds I'm ordering from green mountain diapers have different colored stitching to make it easy to tell the sizes apart. If I dye those.. will I loose that original colored stitching to the dye? I dont want it to be difficult to tell my sizes apart.. so does anyone have any insight on this?

You could dye the diapers to match the stitching. Then the whole diaper would be color coded by size.
