Im not sure if I should be posting here or not. I dont have infertility, that I know of, but I have been ttc with no success. I was going to discuss options with my dr. my health insurance does not cover infertility treatments and I was wondering what the cost of a prescription of something like clomid might cost. thanks.

Could your doctor do some tests to pinpoint a particular problem and then treat the problem itsself so your insurance will cover things? I don't ovulate, so I'm not eligible for ins. coverage of infertility treatments (IUI and IVF.) My doctor has done tests and prescribed Clomid for me to "treat annovulation." Sure, my end goal is to get pregnant but if my insurance will pay to treat a portion of what I need to fix a small problem in the scope of the "big picture" rather than nothing, then it's better than nothing.... good luck!

Interestingly enough, a lot of insurnace programs cover the meds, especailly because a lot of the meds are used in other areas of healthcare and not just for infertility. If you have a regular perscription program all you need to do is find out what meds you could potentially be on and call the pharmacy and see if they are covered.
Good luck on your journey

I have a very particular insurance so I know for a fact that I have to pay out of pocket. just trying to get a ball park figure for what I might be getting myself into.

Not sure where you are in CA, but it looks like the generic of Clomid (Clomiphene) is covered under the $9 price at Wal-Mart for a 30 day supply of 50mg (alot of their other generics are $4.) There was an asterisk noting that the copay may be different in CA, but it may be worth calling your local store and seeing if you can participate in the program. I know CVS (east coast pharmacy-not sure if you have this chain near you) also participates in a lower-cost program where you pay a lower copay for a 3-month supply of a generic drug. For the most part, their list matches Wal-Marts, so a 90-day supply of Clomiphene may also be included. Some of your local chains may have a kind of discount program too- it may be worth cold-calling your local chains to see what they have to offer. Sorry I couldn't be more help with estimating what the out of pocket cost for Clomid would be otherwise...

Target pharmacy charges $4 for my 5 day cycle of generic Clomid. I may be getting my dose increased next month, so I'm hoping it will still be $4!

If you have a Target pharmacy near you, it may be worth checking out.

It looks like you have a 1 year old baby? You need to have a few simple blood tests: thyroid, prolactin, some other stuff - before you start the clomid. It is very possible that your ovulation is still suppressed.

As others have said, clomid is not expensive - but your risk of multiples will increase.
