Shingles vaccine, infant exposure?

My stepmother (who is divorcing my dad and on her way out of the family) just called and said that she just got the shingles vaccine, and she is planning on attending Easter. However she just found out she is not supposed to be in contact with babies because of the vaccine and she wanted me to be aware that she got it. She said it's really only a matter of her not *holding* my 7 mo. old, which she never did anyway.... Any thoughts?

Well the shingles vax is a live virus vax so it would shed at some point. But my best guess would be that your child, if exposed and infected, would get chicken pox. You can get chicken pox from true shingles if you have never had the pox yet and are in close contact with the blisters of an infected person. So an educated guess would be that contact with her could potentially mean CP for your babe, but it's a long shot I would guess.

She could be shedding but it is highly unlikley that your child, if not very close to her, would get cp from it. Your child would not get shingles.

The shingles vaccine would cause the same infection in your child as any wild cp virus since the body replicates the virus once in the body.
