I have been looking for an outdoor playhouse for my kids. not a tree house per se but just a playhouse.

Except I dont want it to be plastic... aside from building it ourselves (which is just not going to happen) do you guys know of any?

Thanks

lowes and home depot sell them and I've seen a bunch on craigslist. They all seem a bit pricey to me. If your husband is handy, you can search the web for plans and build one yourself.

maybe i should specify...

http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/...10000003+90401

this is monstrous to us... this isnt what we are looking for.

just a simple lodge type thing, a little house with a door and maybe a window. something like this http://www.playhouses.com/playhouses...nplayhouse.cfm except not plastic.
nothing special or ridiculously expensive.

Try a large Ace Hardware, I saw pics of a great one from one of those that somebody converted to a chicken coop, but Ace's inventory varies so much by store it's hard to say what you'll find, some apparently will even do custom ones.

we bought a really nice one at Costco (like a sam's) it is all wooden and made to look like a lincoln log house and about 4x5. It was about $300. I didnt see it online though. I have also seen some smaller ones at lowes, they are meant as add on to the Gorilla playsets but they could work for freestanding ones as well.

This site is pretty fun to look at--- so out of reach for most of us, I'm sure. Fantasy playhouse shopping.

Your child can play in the Grand Victorian starting at $19,999!!!!

Our DD got the costco/Sam's one from Grandma and Grandpa, it's about $300 and she LOVES it.

Kidkraft activity playhouse;

those are two different models, and my DD's is even different than that.

Good luck!

Oh, my kids love to get out of the cart and play with the playhouse at costco! The would die if we could get it for them. It's kidkraft and wooden. Tons of fun little doodads on it, too.

We are buying the Woodridge Playhouse (google it for pictures) NIB from Craigslist--it sold from Sam's last summer and we didn't get it them--have been searching for it ever since. It's a great playhouse--and not plastic--which is hugely important to us too.

We are planning on buying the one at Costco. Went today and DD had a ball playing in it.
There is also one online:

The one at Costco is a bit different- with sand and water trays and a BBQ grill. But the one at my Costco doesn't have that porch that a PP posted- which is so cute!

The roofs of the kidkraft are plastic (but don't look cheap) and the rest is wood. A great bargain, IMO!

costco has a really nice cabin for $300.

ETA:sorry,I didn't read the posts before

We have a plastic house that my mother in law "surprised" us with, and I hate it. My dogs destroyed the plastic pieces, and it's tacky and horrible.

I want to sell it on Craigslist and get another

But, I love these - horribly overpriced yes, but so adorable!

Have you thought of growing a bean teepee? You just need some bean seeds and 6' bamboo poles. Put the poles into the dirt, and tie at the top to make a teepee shape. Then grow a few bean seeds around the poles (leaving open a little space for a door). The kids love these and we don't have to worry about hot plastic in the summer, splinters from wood, or figuring out how to throw it away when we're done with it....

Our local Habitat for Humanity ReStore has groups paint/ design old shipping containers into play houses and then sells them. Maybe check yours if you have one?

I would love to get one for DS as well, but if I can't find one I will get him a swing set or something.
