Our first little guy will be arriving in the next couple months and so I am finally ready to place a CD order. Here is what I have come up with for our Part Time CD stash.. please critique and answer questions:

Prefolds- 24 each size (what sizes? I will be honest, I may skip newborn stage as I already have received many newborn sposies as gifts)
Covers- 6 each size
Snappis- 6
BumGenius AIO Organic One Size with Snaps- 6
Inserts/Doublers- ?? (need help with this one- or us prefolds as inserts/doublers as LO grows?)
Sprayer
Detergent- May try Charlie's and Allen's
Wet Bag
Pail, Liner

What do I need to add or adjust?

Just curious, are you planning on buying all that now? I was just wondering since you really don't know what brands you will like, what size your child will fit into and what types you are going to prefer.

For the covers, I would only buy the size you need now. As pp said, you may find that you want to try different covers in the next size. If you are using newborn disposables at first, you can probably go right into infant prefolds. I might get a dozen infant and a dozen premium to see what works best for your LO at that point. You can always add to it when you find which size is best.

Personally I would only buy what you need now.

Prices go up and down. As you get to know cloth diaper brand you can find better deals.

You dont know if you will have short/chunky short/skinny fat/long Differnt babies fit diaper different.

As for the covers I got by with 2. One for mommie milk poo and a back up. I really did not need any more than that.

It sure i fun to look though

I was going to start with one size of prefold and one size of cover (but I am new to this, I have no clue). I have heard that the Bumgenius don't fit small ones all that great, so I figured the prefolds/covers would be what comes after the newborn sposies, then add the AIO's to the mix. I am going to buy the accessories and detergent now too.
Michelle123- your plan to get 12 infant and 12 premium sounds good too.

What about getting some inserts??
I did not need inserts even when my dd was close to PT. We just used rolled up prefolds-like a size smaller then whatever you are using.

For detergent I used All free and clear or jut regualr purex

Personally I did not/could not afford all the fancy gadgets. but that is the fun with clothing you cant ever have to much and if something does not work for you you can sell it on craigslist and someone ele may have better luck.

Prefolds- I'd go with 18
Covers- 6 in small but the bigger sizes you really only need 4
Snappis- I have 3 and this has been fine
BumGenius AIO Organic One Size with Snaps- 6 You might want to try a few different AIO's or 3 AIO's and 3 Pockets. You might not like BG.
Inserts/Doublers- You might want to get some fleece topped hemp doublers for nighttime.
Sprayer- Buy this later when your babe is onto solids EBF poo is water soluble and doesn't need to be washed off.
Detergent- I use homemade (Arm & Hammer washing soda and a sunlight bar and water)
Wet Bag Get a few of these they are good for other things too like wet swimsuits and such
Pail - I use a metal garbage can with a removable inner pail and a flip lid

If you plan to only cloth diaper part time you can get my with less. 3 snappis will be fine (you only use one at a time anyway). 4 covers should do it. I was really happy to have newborn sized diapers and covers because my dd was little. Size small would have been way too big. Something to think about if you plan to use cloth during the NB phase. I like the small hemp doublers from green mountain diapers.

You seem to be getting great feedback.

The only thing I wanted to add is that getting at least one good wet bag that ZIPS for when you're out and about is really important. I had 2 drawstring wet bags but sometimes they just didn't contain the smell well, especially if we were out for a long period of time. It was embarrassing to be walking around with a diaper bag slung over my shoulder that smelled like dirty diapers! I finally broke down and spent the extra (I think they're around $16.50) for a Planet Wise bag that zips and CONTAINS the smell and I only wish I had done so sooner! They are awesome! And they come in really great prints, too!

Good luck and best wishes for a safe and healthy delivery!

Get 24 infant prefolds and 18 premium prefolds.

Don't forget wipe solution like honey chunks or similar and diaper-safe rash cream like Northern Essence salve.

A prefold inside a bumGenius (as a doubler) will be super-bulky so I would get some thin hemp doublers instead. These could be used overnight inside a prefold, too. Are you going to get a cover for over night? Many people like fleece or wool soakers.

Two more questions:

Green Mountain Diapers prefold sizing is different then some of the other websites, which of theirs are considered "infant" and "premium"?

How many hemp doublers will I need to buy?

I've used it with my diapers and had no problems.

It looks to me that their small yellow edge and large dark brown would be similar to the usual infant and premium sizes. I've never used their diapers. I am going on my experience using regular infant and premium.

I am ordering today some 2nd's from softclothbunz. I need a little help:
What they have left is:
Infant Regular 4x6x4, unbleached for .88 ea
or
Infant Premium 4x7x4, bleached for .93 ea
I was thinking about getting 24 of one of these, but I am not sure which. I would prefer Premium unbleached, I think, but I think these prices are great and want to get some. Also, I am ordering 18 Baby Premium size.

Based on this information, what size covers should I get and how many for the Infant sized prefolds? (probably Thirties)
(remember I am somewhat skipping brand new baby stage)

momoen1- That helps, thank you!!
