DVDs for toddlers

Hi there,

My husband and I have been TV free for many years. We have a 2 year old who hasn't watched any tv (except for the occasional bit at other people's houses, but we usually redirect him). We have a few long car rides in our future and my DH has requested that we get a portable DVD player for when we just need that extra 30 minutes to get there... and I agreed...

So - what is this post about? I have absolutely NO IDEA what *short* DVDs to get for my son! I am totally in the dark about current kids DVDs and what would be most appropriate/fun/entertaining/educational/whatever. I know that many people who post on MDC share my values, and I'm hoping that some of you who let your kids watch DVDs can help me out here with some suggestions.

Thanks in advance!!!

We do mostly PBS/Sprout shows but also Peguins of Madagascar from Nick. If we could buy one, I think Clifford is the best choice for his age group (we have a 26 month old). A lot of people like Little Bear but my DS has no interest. I stay away from the other kids channels.

Kipper! He is super sweet, very gentle, and best of all, he is British, so there is absolutely no marketing here in the states. Your son will never find Kipper on a cereal box or as a stuffed toy in a store. That was super important for me when I was searching for kids DVD's. I swore up and down that I would never let my son watch tv, but as a single mama, I occasionally need him to slow down and chill out while I sweep up broken glass, or do something else that it is essential for him to not be underfoot. He calls it "Doggy Singing", and although we don't watch it often, he adores Kipper when I do get it out.
