Ergo and 21 lb baby

Thread Starter
I have the Ergo and LOVE it.
My 5 1/2 month DS is now almost 21lbs and I have noticed my low back feeling stiff and sore.

I know the Ergo can carry up to 40 lbs, so how do parents carry the weight so they don't hurt their backs?

Right now the waistband is around the area of the top of my hip bones and below my belly button.

Any suggestions?

Are you wearing your baby on your front or on your back in the Ergo?

I can easily wear my 40ish pound preschooler on my back in the Ergo, but I wouldn't even consider wearing my 30ish pound toddler on my front.

try lowering the waistbelt a bit so that it's around your hip bones and fairly snug. You want the weight to be carried by your hips, not your back...

I agree. That's what I need to do with both my Babyhawk and my Beco. The waist band needs to be around my hip bones instead of sitting above them.

My 35 pound preschooler feels great in the Ergo - weight needs to sit on hips and keep shoulder straps cinched down. Make sure child's butt is in the seat pocket.

I think part of the comfort also comes from what you are doing while you are carrying. I found that I could walk forever with my DS on my back, but standing around even for shorter periods of time tended to leave me sore.

I can very comfortably wear my 30 lb 2 yo on my back in the Ergo. Keep adjusting the waist strap until you feel the wait transferred to your hips. It shouldn't be pulling on your shoulders, neck, or back.
