Nathaniel James is here!

I gave birth to my third child, Nathaniel James, on April 1, 2009. He was 8 pounds 8 ounces and 22 1/2 inches long. He has blue eyes and brown hair just like his older brother and a ton of hair like his older sister. I'm biased of course, but he is beautiful.

Birth story...
I saw a perinatologist once a month throughout pregnancy b/c I was considered high risk due to low platelets and possible clotting issues. Babe was growing very well and all looked great, but at 30 weeks I was told he was breech (didn't know he was a he at the time- gender was a surprise). Didn't think much of it. Went back at 34 weeks- still breech. CNM said it was still normal. Checked at 36 weeks- still breech. Started Webster technique (chiropractic), spinning babies techniques, moxibustion. Back at 37weeks- still breech and head was in a tilted position so ECV was not an option. Kept trying techniques and HOPING he'd turn. I had a natural Hypnobirthing birth with DD and had totally planned for my ideal birth with my last child. Had taken refresher courses, practiced techniques, visualization, etc. Scheduled C-section for one day before EDD to give him a chance to turn and me a chance to go into labor on my own. I did! The afternoon before the c-section contractions started and came every 4-5 minutes apart (not painful yet though) so we headed to the hospital about 7PM. I didn't think I'd make it to 11:30 the next day so we went ahead and they got me prepped for surgery. They did one more quick US and he was still breech. I had my c-section birth plan along and they followed what was there and discussed any other options with me. I wanted to see the birth. I wanted to experience it with my eyes and discover the gender and not just hear a cry. It would have been too hard to see by lowering the screen, so the anesthesiologist held up a mirror and I saw him coming out. I announced "ITS A BOY!!" and saw how his head was a little stuck. They got him out pretty quickly and daddy went to the warmer with him. We didn't have a boys name decided and DH made the executive decision to call him Nathaniel (my favorite of the names we had picked) I got to hold him in recovery and to nurse him. All in all, despite it not being my planned natural birth, it was a wonderful experience. Sorry for the long post It was nice putting it all down in writing though!!

Congrats, mama! I think your birth story is great! Sounds like you did all you could, and then went with the flow. Kind of what I'm trying to keep in mind right now as I face down an induction.

Welcome Nathaniel! :

Hey Jenny, congratulations again. It's great to hear the details of your birth story, and I'm so glad that things went well for you! Sounds like we both got to have just about the best c-sections that a person could have.
