uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

hard to say

We had a formal assessment, still waiting on the written reports -- and still a lot of unanswered questions:

unanswered questions:
social anxiety
the sensory issues re: food and eating
are the speech and food related
sensory issue re: crowds, malls, and so on ...
WHY for the brain immatrity -- the IUGR? a on-going disorder that we will deal with forever? when should it correct?
what role does the Brain Immaturity play in the speech and the sensory stuff?

Things we learned -- in no special order
there is definatly some brain immaturity -- ie physical maturity delay ...the potty training, the self regulating (self soothing, breaking off frustration behaviors)
no ASD .. they all wanted to tell me no autism and i was like no kidding??? i asked about asprburgers (misspelled) .. but everyone was farily sure there is no ASD at all
the brain immaturity is a factor in the sleep
POSSIBEL ADD ...maybe .. but no one was gonna say THAT at 3.5. However the ADD could be a facotr of the brain immaturity (and the sleep is a indicator of that)
the nightmares are another indicotor of the brain immaturity ...and intrestingly enough are seen with ADD a lot

we asked about SPD and were told it is a possiblity ...if he was at the level he is now and older, then YES or if he had more sensitive NOW ....as it is he is caught in the "could be his age, could be the general immaturity of processing , could be SPD"

We have not seen the writting reports so I can't say too much

the OT people. also they focused 100% on skill ...stacking blocks, cutting paper, drawing lines ....nothing on the actul sensory issues ....nothing and of course THAT was our biggest issue -- ... the Psychologist, in passing, said OT would be really helpful and help us with a sensory diet and so on ...nope didn't even cover any sensory stuff .... more PT (ie can he stack blocks, he is physically able). they did say his fine motor control was behind, but i think we can see THAT from the strong indicators that his brain maturity is lagging. They also did not do anythign with the oral issues AT ALL.

The Dev Ped was great, if not connected to anyone, and she told us that he is physically not ready to PT ... he is at teh older end of normal for his body and brain getting it together but she is not worried yet. The PT seems to tie in to the brain immaturity indicated by so much else in his life.

The Pscyhologist .... ???? she told us 1. it is normal for a child (or adult) to loose focuse sooner as a task gets harder ....and she told us 2. the tests she did with him got progressively harder and then ???? 3. that he should not have lost focus ...............she said she is not going to DX ADD now, but that she is concerned that could be an issue ...when the brain maturity catches up to his age we will need to watch that. He was unable to do the pattenern bolck (red and white blocks, she made somethng adn asked him to copy it) and lost intest really fast ...but i KNEW he'd not be able to do them, patteneres are NOT something for which the light bulb has gone on yet; he can't do them at all...again he should have been able to ......... have based on his age, so you are looking at another example of brain immaturity..........................sad thing is -- what she was worried about about him being off task -- was waaaaaaaaaaaaaay better "calm" behavior than i generally can ever hope for ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh if she had seen the REAL Theodore ............................I was pretty upset she didn't want to cover ANY actual mental health -- ie the anxiety and so on ....she taked about the PT for ever (not her area) and the eating (not her area) but blew off my questions of anxiety and so on and the night mares and so on ........we will see what he report says -- if not i will have to write back about that too.

soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo ??????????????? I am not sure we learned anything.

We trudge on trying to find what is best for him
