Help! Trouble with SSP on curly purly

I've never had to do this before, so I watched the video on knittinghelp, and as far as I can tell I'm doing it right, but it's not making a nice edge like it's supposed to. The leg hole with the K2tog has a nice finished edge to make picking up stitches easy, but the leg hole with the SSP has something weird going on, it's not nice and pretty. Any thoughts on what I might be doing wrong?

Did you slip the stitches knit wise and then purl them thru back loop?
