Gosh, that's a loaded question for me I love sewing machines and have at present.15 machines ( I recently did a mini destash and sold 4 of them them) and I also have 2 sergers and 1 coverstitch machine. My primary modern machine is a brother PC 6000 that I adore. Most of the rest are vintage machines. I do try to rotate through them all. Currently I'm piecing a quilt on my bernina 801. I have pix of most of my machines on my blog. I just love those old gals!

My main machine is a vintage Singer 319K but I have a Frister and Rossman 420 which I use less but is better for some things because it has a free arm which the Singer doesn't have.

I have a Singer 457 (given to me) and a Singer 500A (my dream machine!) In the past I've had low end machines that did not hold up. I'd never buy one again. I love old, solid Singers. Which one depends on what you want to do with it. The 401 and 500 models are virtually identical. They're all-metal gears, really versatile, and you can get one in working condition for $20-$200.

I'm a big fan of Swiss made Bernina industrial machines and I have 3-- an 850, 950 and a big 217N.

I have a Bernina Record.....it always works for me...I dont really know if I love it or not....I think I would'nt mind something a little more modern and automatic....

I have a 801 sport and an 807. They're both pretty basic models but make a lovely stitch and are very portable.

I don't know what the machine downstairs is. My MIL just gave it to me not long ago and I sort of wrote it off as soon as I saw it (other than saying "That'll do... for now.")
I may have just found my "dream machine"... a Singer 15-91. It's the machine I learned to sew on and therefor the machine I prefer... Besides, it's a vintage Singer! What more could you ask for?

I have a brother 5000PRW. Its awesome! I really enjoy it and its super easy to use. I haven't managed to break it yet and electronical things and me don't get along. Ive broken many a persons sewing machine.

I have an older, mechanical Viking, it only has about 20 stitches. Then I have a Kenmore 19001, which is a really nice combination sewing/embroidery machine; and a Janome 10001 which is a really great combination sewing/embroidery machine. I sew all my own clothes, occasionaly sew for profit, and teach sewing. A good machine isn't just a passing fancy, it is an investment, for now & for the future if you teach your kids to sew too.
