clomid=multiples?

just wondering....what is the % rate of conceiving multiples? one bundle of joy would be enough for me!

I don't have a link handy but the global rate of multiples is about 10% or so. It will vary greatly depending on why you are taking clomid and your ovarian reserve. You should make sure you do not have PCOS as the combination of the wrong fertility drug and PCOS can lead to many eggs.

You can do an ultrasound before ovulation to see how many follicles are big enough to potentially ovulate and make a decision about whether or not to risk it then.

You definitely should be finding out exactly why you are taking it and what your doctor is hoping it will do for you. It seems tht many regular gynecologists or even GPs just prescribe that stuff a little randomly.

I believe I was quoted 15% (30-yr old with PCOS). Clomid is usually fine for PCOS, but injectibles were not allowed for me due to risk of higher order multiples.

Oh, the twins in my siggy were from IVF, the singleton was from clomid.

My gyn said that the odds of multiples increases by 10-15 percent. She said that she wouldn't prescribe it if it were much more than that. Funny how so much information is skewed. I too wonder what the real odds are.

Hmm... maybe it depends on dosage as well? I think I was told 5-10% chance? My first DS was concieved on Clomid. 50mg days 5-9.
DS 2 and current PG are from IVF. All singletons. I have endometriosis.. but I do think your chaces of multiples w/ clomid are higher if your Dx is PCOS.
I hadn't been diagnosed as endo yet when we did the clomid, but they did know that I had a short luteal phase and my progesterone level was borderline low.

What I want to know (if anyone can help) is if you already ovulate fine on your own, and you add clomid...will you likely produce more than one egg? my doc seems to think that usually you will just make one. I was considering clomid to help maybe balance out our male factor.

Well, I o just fine on my own and my RE put me on clomid to help produce more 'targets' for the swimmers to hit...HTH

My OB had told me that Clomid increases your chance of multiples by about 8% over your natural chances.

My younger two were both conceived while taking Clomid-no multiples here.

more than the average of posibilities that you get multiple, I think that when we choose for a therapy for infertility, we must know that there is always the risk of getting twins or more, I know the posibilities are low, but if I get twins after 10 years, would be nice coz I am already a high risk patient, so if I get one I'm happy too, but if is triplex or more..... I havent think about it yet .

The only thing that I know that having only clomid the posibility of multiple is really low with an IUI or natural sex, I know the posibilities are higher with FIV or ICSI. In my situation I ovulate 2 in 6 situation (3 of them naturall and 3 IUI) and the result was negative always..... now without medication I got pregnant naturally but is gone, now trying to win the lotto again :

The insert that came with my rx detailed the studies and risks of multiples. It said something to the effect of 8% were multiples, 6 of that being twins, and the rest triplets or more. It really can depend on your genetic history as well. I have a history of twins on my mother's side, the only side it can be passed down through. I also have PCOS. If I were to take clomid again, my doctor has given us about 1/2 chance for twins, 1/4 chance for triplets or more.
