Organic diaper help!

Hello,
My DH and I are definitely doing cloth diapers in a couple of months when we have our first baby..but we are having some issues and disagreements.
My DH really believes that we should only use organic material to cloth our newborn and this includes diapers. (I have gotten him to at least be open to used clothes because we really do not have a lot of money). Originally we were going to do fuzzi bunz snap pocket diapers because we liked the ease of them and thought that it was worth the money. Then my DH realized that they were not organic so he began researching and found bum genius snap all in one organic. We ordered one to look at and it seems really bulky and has this cotten flap in the middle which seems like it will be annoying. I am not into it, and he is not backing down about the fuzzi bunz (that I still want). Now we are thinking of doing some sort of fitted diaper with cover instead. Anyone have any advice on any of this.

I am hoping that our relationship can survive the organic debate!!

What about just finding some all-in-ones with organic inners? We loved Bottombumpers. Diaperware has a big selection of organics. Or you could look for used diapers too. Diaperswappers or Hyena cart both have "for sale or trade" forums.

We are having our first in June and want to use as much organic as possible too. I don't want to spend a fortune on newborn diapers, but am kind of scared of pre-folds, so we're going with organic kissaluvs, organic motherease sandies, a few of the bamboo sandies, and some second hand dry-line diapers. I also picked up a package of organic pre-folds for emergencies. I'm not worrying about what the covers are made of at this point, although once we are past the newborn stage I'd like to use mostly wool.

Hope this helps! I'm sure some of the more experienced mamas who have actually done this before will have good advice!

I am with dh and staying away from the non natural synthetic diapers.

There are about 50% who do great with microfleece and 50% who do terrible with it. I would not make the investment into a material you do not know how your baby is going to respond to without a trial run. Maybe get a mix of things to start and test them out and see what you both can agree on.

I personally liked fitteds and covers or prefolds and covers. Good natural diapering.

We love Growing Greens organic OS fitted diapers and they are economical in the sense that they adjust as baby grows. As for covers, wool is not difficult to use once you get the hang of cleaning it.

ETA: One fantastic aspect of all-cotton diapers that I wish I'd known is that they hold both stink and detergent much less than synthetic fabrics IME.

The BG organic AIO look strange at first glance, but they are super trim when you put them on, not bulky at all. I'm using them on the smallest setting, too. I only have 2 in my stash right now, and if I could afford it I'd have a lot more. They are really great diapers.

Another thing to consider if you want all non-synthetic dipes is to use cotton, bamboo or hemp with a wool cover. There are lots of options to choose from.

I'm due with #2 in Aug and plan to use mostly fitteds and prefolds with this baby - I have my ds in a variety of dipes now, a lot of them pockets... The pockets work well, but they do have the polyester interior. It's just a matter of preference.

One of my favorite dipes so far is Sugar Peas 2-size hemp fitteds. They are organic, absorb really well. The 2-size idea is nice because they fit better than one size dipes, but you don't have to buy them in every size...

I always recommend to people to try several brands and several styles so you can really see what fits your baby and works well for you before you invest in a bunch of all one kind.

Good luck!

We're new parents and we're finding prefolds really easy to diaper with and really easy to clean. We have a few different covers for different occasions (wool, polyester) and are surprised at how easy prefolds are. A few of our friends who are pregnant have already decided that they can do them too. Don't rule them out because they seem scary!

Loveybums has on RB (recession buster) fitted that is organic. They are $13. If you are willing to consider prefolds, GMD is getting in a shipment of organic PFs on Wednesday.

I also recommend organic prefolds or even unbleached cotton prefolds (may not be organic but they are not synthetic or dyed). Prefolds with a cover are an incredibly simple and economical system.

Grobaby has an organic inner, and I think sposoeasy just came out with organic also.

The Bum Genius diapers actually fit fairly trim. As your LO gets older, they'll get trimmer. GroBaby also has an organic cotton inner, as does the Dream Eze fitteds and AIOs. They fit trimly on both my girls. You may also want to look into organic prefolds. You can play around with folds to get a trimmer fit.

thank you all so much for your help. I am now thinking that we will do a mixture of prefolds (organic or bamboo-any suggestions), and fitted for the newborn stage anyway. I am expecting to have a baby on the small to average size so I am not sure how long to expect before the baby is into the next size. Anyway, we registered for the one size organic FB, so I think we will keep any that we get and use them as the baby gets bigger along with a mixture of other things. It had never occurred to me that I could have a number of different types of diapers on hand to see what I like first. I am sure I will be back to ask more questions as I go! Thank you all again..

We've done better with the Fuzzi Bunz ourselves. It keeps moisture off baby skin so well with the fleece and results in little to no diaper rash. Our Bum Genius OS AIO organic stays wet n cold again him.

I say buy a little of everything as ou never know what will end up working best for your LO.

I'd get the organic prefolds, and save the bamboo for once you decide you like using prefolds (or just get a few bamboo to try - they are $$). But bamboo is such a nice fabric to have next to their skin! I find there are a lot of other uses for prefolds too, so even if you don't end up using them for diapering, they won't be a waste. I put one under her for naked time, when I give her a massage, during some messy bfp diaper changes. They can also be used as doublers later. And they are so easy to wash.

I first tried the one-sized BG on DD when she was about 10lbs and it fit her really well. I haven't tried the organic one yet, but will be soon, so can't comment on the wettness. I will say that I wanted to use all natural fibres next to her skin, but keep going for the microfibre pockets because they keep her dryer. I'm still torn.

I also suggest trying out different kinds of diapers. I have a large assortment, and what I thought would work wasn't neccesarily what worked for DD. I also like mixing it up with her and not having the same type of diaper on for too many changes in a row. Good luck with the pregnancy and the CD decision. CDing can be really fun!

Your dh should not argue with a pregnant woman.

Agree with other posters--keep an open mind and try a few different options. While I like the polyester pockets as they wick moisture away well, I like cotton prefolds, Swaddlebees fitteds, bamboo velour fitteds.

How about kissaluvs organics? We use kissaluvs and prefolds (they're organic too). I'm really happy with my kissluv stash these days. They're easy, affordable compared to other fitteds, they're soft and they don't leak.

Also Sustainable Baby-ish makes great diapers.
