My little intact guy says his penis hurts

Two days ago, my son was sticking his forefinger into his foreskin and swishing it around... I said nothing to him b/c seems like it was not hurting. Last night after he urinated he said his penis hurt... so much so that he would not put on his underwear or pajama bottoms.

He is 3.5 yrs and not retactable. Today he said his underpants were wet, so when I checked he had a dark yellow stain on his underpants and again he said his penis hurt. It look a bit fatter than usual, swollen... The smell is not a strong nasty smell, just musky... He is currently soaking in a warm bath water with tea tree oil. What else should I do? It is only tender to the touch... Is this balloning? An infection? Intact DH insisted nothing was wrong and left 4 hrs ago for a week long business trip on the West Coast.

Any help would be appreciated
Thanks!

Sounds like his exploring caused some seperation to happen. It can happen that way. The yellowish discharge is smegma that has been in there for awhile from your description. Here is a link to read if you havnt already with some helpful tips on how to aid healing and so you will know if something more is going on than just seperation http://www.mothering.com/discussions...d.php?t=764732

Thanks MCatLvrMom2A&X! The swelling went down substantially after his soak and he urinated without any pain. I'll keep an eye on it.
Thanks!

I agree with just keeping an eye on it, with frequent warm soaks if necessary. My ds2 gave himself a nasty infection playing with his penis just before he turned three. We was doing just like your son. The infection ended up going up the urinary tract into his bladder. He was in so much pain. Sounds like your little guy is on the mend though. Good luck!

you can do epsom salts as opposed of tea tree oil.

Probably just normal separation this can be somewhat painful but that is normal. The link mcatlvrmom posted should give you some info about normal separation. Pain, itching, irritation, stinging while urinating, minor swelling, ballooning, smegma discharge or pears, etc are all normal and may come and go throughout separation. Since the smegma has been there for a long time it will have an odor.

Keegan started to complain pretty much daily of his penis hurting at around 2 1/2 and just before his 3rd birthday he was retractable. So that's my guess.
