Birth Control

Thread Starter
I have a question for you all. Since we have the two kids we have wanted and really don't want anymore, I am looking into various options of permanent birth control. I am wondering about Essure: http://www.essure.com/

I wonder if there is anyone out there who has either used Essure as a permanent birth control method, or knows of someone who has. I would like to be able to ask someone whose 'been there, done that' some questions.

For example: What was the procedure like? What about when you go back after three months and have the HSG test done, what was that like? Has it been successful for you? How long have you had it? Have you experienced any symptoms since having the procedure done? Etc.

Anything on this procedure would be GREAT.

TIA.
Sincerely,
Sweet Tomato

I had it done in February and will go back in may for the hsg test....the procedure was simple ....I was out for the whole thing and it took maybe an hour ....it was outpatient...I had some slight cramping but that was it ...I chose it because they were unable to due a tubal due to scarring from two c sections and gallbladder surgery .....

Can't help you on the Essure, but I had an HSG to check for tubal blockage when I was having trouble conceiving. It was surprisingly painful, much more so than I'd been led to expect, but it was over very quickly. I had very little pain afterward. Basically, my cervix went, "GYAAAHH!!! You can't stick things in there!!! STOP THAT RIGHT--oh, it's over." and then held a grudge for the rest of the day.

I am interested in the this too. I've only met one person who had it done. When doing the procedure she did have a problem because one of her tubes was bigger (there was a reason, but I can't remember it) so she only had one done and had to come back for the second one.

I have had an HSG, and it was easy. Just some cramping, nothing really.

However, I recommend women under 30-35 consider something more temporary than permanent birth control. Something like a IUD perhaps. The reason why I say this is that I have many friends who said they were done with having children when they were still relatively young, did a tubal, and then 10 years later or so decided they wanted another child for various reasons. Sometimes it was divorce and remarriage, sometimes something happened to a child, sometimes they just wanted "one more". So many women who had tubals end up having to use IVF to have another child, and IVF is very expensive. Just throwing it out there, YMMV.
