Flylady? - Page 2

Ok, I have been a "flybaby" for 3 1/2 hours and she has sent me 4 email reminders to do things

I really can't drop everything and run around my house to collect 27 things that I can't look at, but must throw out.

Does this mean I have that oppositional disorder? Or does it mean I have a life??:LOL

Sorry, all kidding aside...I am dressed, one child is, the sink is still clean, but there is dry oatmeal in the dining room and I haven't cleaned out any closets.
Is there still hope?

OK, now I remember why I gave up the first time. I checked my e-mail this morning and I had 20 reminders from flylady already!! Its too overwhelming, I can't keep up! I just unsubscribed from the reminders.

Last night I made an effort to pick up before bed, put the dishes in the dishwasher, and wipe down the sink, and it made a big difference this morning. I identified my "hot zones" and I'm trying to be more aware of them as the day goes on. My fear is that I'll create new hot zones as I try to keep the ones I've identified clear!

beanma, the Roomba has sensors that turn it in another direction when it comes in contact with something. I don't know how it does with tiny toys, DS is only 9 months so anything that he leaves on the floor will be big enough to trip the sensors. Its a pretty cool machine.

Just delete the reminders for now, and do the very basics. "baby steps"

Hint about the e-mails that get overwhelming... you can set your e-mail program to filter messages for you. I tell mine to send any of the "reminder" ones to the trash before I ever see them, and I have separate folders set up for the testimonials and daily missions. That way I get the inspiration and missions without having to plow through them all.

She keeps asking me where my shoes are...

In a pile in the hallway, darn it.

She sends me messages that I have 2 minutes to clean up a hot zone...I ahve no idea what she is talking about.

I am thinking of all the people I can sign up for Flylady for April Fools.

Just kidding.

SoHappy, GREAT tip about sending the reminders to the trash! I'm doing that now.

I really like how she calls everything a "house blessing". If I can start thinking about cleaning like that, it may help a bit more. Finding the sacred in everyday things. I love how she says after you dust to take the duster outside and shake it to bless the world too! :LOL

AH, Flylady............ I looked into it as you gals her have been talking about it for a long time.

I have three dogs, four cats, a 19 month old and a total slob of a husband....and I'm not much better.............

I have realized that lack of cleaning is sort of like any other dysfunctional thing we grow up with. We don't know what we weren't taught/shown....so it takes conscious learning to fix it. I have been thinking that a neat house and an ability to clean is a thing my child needs to see in her life so she can adapt those skills. So far, we pick up the living room every day at the end of the day. I shined the sink for a while, then fell off the wagon.... I can never seem to make the bed but I'll work on it. I have been folding and putting the laundry away as I do it and that makes a big difference. I agree, it is really all about baby steps!

We are trying. Dh is the type to start a thing and never pick up after himself. (For example, he will feed the dogs and leave the cabinet door wide open, the lid off the dog food tin and simply walk away, never realizing that he hasn't completed the task.) I am terrible with papers and horizontal surfaces! I get so overwhelmed, that I dont know where to start, so I take the babe to the park or the book store or the coffee shop.....any escape I can find!

We're working on it. Maybe I need to go re-visit Flylady......I'll think about this thread and follow it a bit. Maybe you gals will inspire me!

Well, my sink is fairly shiny, and the dishes are in the dishwasher, ready to wash. But that's mostly because I had a little help tonight. We had Bible study at our house tonight, and the other couples are much better at cleaning up after dinner than DH and I are when we're alone. However, I *did* fling about 9 garbage bags full of stuff today! I cleaned out my office/craft room (where I am right now) and organized it a bit. And I got rid of a few things from DD's room, too. DH had a snow day today, so he was able to entertain DD while I got a little cleaning done. It's amazing what I can do with a few hours with DD, DH and the dog out of my way! :LOL

About the email reminders: I have mine set to digest, but I have the flylady webpage set as my homepage. So I get the reminders/missions/testimonials off the homepage, first thing when I log onto my computer. I can't stand having all of those emails in my inbox. It makes me feel sick to my stomach to log on and find that I have 30 new messages.

Hey mamas...I want to jump on the wagon with y'all. I have been getting flylady reminders for about a year and a half, and all I do is delete them.(it helps that they are not going to my primary email address, lol) I am committed to keeping my house clean, we are awful at it. Right now my kitchen and living room are actually livable, and I have a couple of big black garbage bags, and 2 huge boxes of clothes/toys to donate. I'm hoping to make it over to the salvation army today to drop them off. So here I go...babysteps!!
Thanks for this thread mamas!

Oh, and no shoes here either...I HATE shoes!

i signed up for flylady a few weeks ago...
the reminders dont bother me, although i suspect i'm deleting tasks i'm supposed to be doing without reading it first

my sink really is the thing that stresses me out the most so i'm glad that's one of the main things she 'reminds' us about as i have a small sink/counter space even just a bit of clutter makes me feel overwhelmed...

BUT i DO NOT understand why i have to shine my sink at night AND in the morning : do other ppl have family members get up in the middle of the night and mess it up and make it so nasty u have to shine it again in the morning ?

anyway i 'modified' it. i shine the sink/do the dishes at night and put them away in the morning so it always looks clean

i love it. really i feel i have an aversion to cleaning because i make tons of excuses (because of dd needing me) but it takes me 20 min. to make my kitchen look sparkling with her on the sling...

now if only she can send out reminders about the computer room....................................

Having some trouble. I've been working on the before bed routine. We've been doing "family cleanup time" after dinner. We put away toys, clean up kitchen, put kids to b ed, etc. But my baby winds up needing me to nurse him to sleep, then I can't get away to finish the cleanup.

:P Gonna have to start the cleanup earlier I guess.

I've been excited about the progress, but now i have a huge pile of clean laundry that I meant to put away before bed. And some dishes in the sink from last night's dinner (got sidetracked so the pots are still left to wash). And my big guy has a snow day today, so we slept in and I missed my shower opportunity while DH was home.

SO here I am nursing the baby at the computer, in pajamas, no shower, no shoes, stressing about my messy sink and pile of laundry. Oh, and browsing at the fly shop, to top it off, thinking of buying something. http://flylady.net/pages/FlyShop_Gifts.asp

For goodness sakes.

xoxo pam -- trying to get flying today. Remember it is only 11:30 am in WA.
That doesn't sound too bad Pamela! But, don't buy anything...it will eventually just be clutter anyway :LOL

I like cleaning up before bed too. It helps me to feel organized in the morning. I think it also helps the kids (including dh) learn a sense of responsibility for their surroundings and belongings. I don't lay out my clothes tho. I usually have a sense of what I am going to wear based on our activities for the day..."the gray leggings, or the black?".

I also don't make the bed other than to pull up the covers and straighten it. But I try to keep laundry put away and off the back of the couch.
Are you out of a shower now? Sometimes we all bathe together in the am!

I'm in. I too delete most of the reminders. I don't know how anyone can read all of them and still get things done. You would be at the computer all day.:LOL I have had my sink shiny for 3 days (except tonight cuz it is Rachel's b-day and I busted my butt so it is dh's job) but I refuse to wear shoes. In the last few days though, I have cleaned my fridge, my spice cabinet (3 full shelves of lots more than spices), my silverware drawer and my front hall closet. I donated a garbage bag full of coats and boots. I am just enjoying flying at my own level. I do like how all of her e-mails say:
Quote:
You are not behind! I don't want you to try to catch up; I just want you to jump in where we are. O.K.?
This makes me feel better and I do not try to go back and read all the e-mails to see what I missed.

Gotta run. SHE just told me to shine my sink so I can smile in the morning. :LOL
post #37 of 86
I fell off the wagon today. : Just call me lazy bones.

I like that mantra at the end of each email too.

Wanna hear something funny? She has gotten to me. I really was leaving the kitchen for dh to clean. But when FL e-mailed me and said to shine my sink because it would make me smile in the morning and get my day off to a good start, I did it!! I am having a candle party here tonight and I want my house as clean as possible. What a great way to start.
aw shucks, tnrsmom, you've inspired me. i'm going to shine my sink today!

i've been babystepping toward flying for a month or so.. i bought a little black hardcover notebook to organize and modify my routine. haven't actually created my routine yet, but it was gonna be 3 morning tasks and 3 evening tasks.. simple ones like sweeping, cleaning off all the counters, etc. and i will eventually add to it.

right now my focus is decluttering, and then i will start zones. i love using the timer; it's amazing what you can accomplish w/ 15 mins concentrated effort!

also, happy to report that i have done my dishes every day!
