This morning we found that an obscure local channel was showing a cartoon about American history, with only public service announcements as commercials, so we watched some of it and then I left EnviroKid watching it while I went to the bathroom. When I returned, the show had ended and he was watching an infomercial for a juicer. He said, "Look, it can make a green juice OR a pink juice!" I said, very unimpressed, "Yeah, it depends on which fruits you put into it," and turned it off.
My dad was very strict about turning off the sound during commercials; my brother and I weren't allowed to listen to them, for fear we might be swayed. (We used to make up our own words.
) One summer, my brother and I went to visit our grandparents and returned to find new siding being installed on our house. My dad had decided to get it after listening to a TV commercial! He thought since the kids weren't there, he didn't have to turn off the sound, but the ad persuaded HIM! And then it turned out to be crappy siding, so we ribbed him about it until he replaced it: "See what happens when you listen to commercials?"
