Choosing diapers to wash in a shared apartment setting?

We live in an apartment building with three washers and dryers. They have larger than usual capacity and wash well but have no special features other than temperature control. We use 7th Gen Free and Clear normally.

If I had my way I would probably choose an AIO but I understand that those are more difficult to wash. I need something that is easy to wash and doesn't require multiple special cycles. Any thoughts? Do I need to go with prefolds?

I am planning on this for our new EBF infant. Probably start cloth after meconium passes.

Also considering switching 22m toddler to cloth before potty training. I think an AIO is a must there.

Alternative: Local diaper service for prefolds costs $80/month. Covers not included. That is actually more than we spend on 7th Gen disposables now.

Doing cloth primarily for environmental issues

I use the Happy Heiny's One-Size and they are really simple to wash. You really don't even need a cold-rinse. I would just wash them in HOT water and they came out nice and clean. You could always try a couple and see how they wash up.
