Just out in the news, hopefully the site will let you read the article w/o having to register:

In 2005, Minnesota health officials discovered that five unvaccinated Amish children from central Minnesota were infected with the polio virus, including a baby with a weakened immune system.
I thought this was incorrect? They talk about the Amish baby, but I thought that the baby had antibodies AGAINST polio, not had polio itself.

None of the children actually developed polio, and DeVries said there is no connection between the Amish cases and the patient who died last month.
Sounds like it was just antibodies and poor journalism?

They try to down play it by saying he was probably infected 10 years ago but just now developed symptoms. Of course the Amish kids (who weren't vaxed) was just 4 years ago. So obviously its still being spread years after the vax was stopped.

The OPV is used in many developing countries, so someone who was vaxed could visit MN or someone from MN could visit a developing country.

And the business about the Amish kids actually having polio as opposed to being asymptomatic carriers is everywhere. I'd fall over backwards if someone got that right, actually.

Exactly. Who is spreading what to whom? Let's not forget this piece of news that came out for a few milliseconds and then disappeared into the ether.

The medical staff, from the northern town of Grudziadz, are being investigated over medical trials on as many as 350 homeless and poor people last year, which prosecutors say involved an untried vaccine to the highly-contagious virus.
I don't know how many stories I come across on a regular basis regarding deadly viruses escaping labs and infecting cattle, which leads to the total destruction of hundreds of family farms, or deadly viruses being mailed accidentally. Stories about children dropping dead minutes after shots in foreign countries. Stories about military personnel mysteriously becoming paralyzed or dropping dead after "flu" shots. It goes on and on and on. These stories pop up and then disappear.

However, one child dies from what they say could be a link to Hib, and we have no idea how they came up with the diagnosis or what kind of "treatment" the child received before death, and it's all over the news for months and months.

As with most vax-related articles, this one garnered some interesting comments. I won't discuss specifics, (UAV territory!), but one day we can host a thread on some of the topics without referencing this directly.

It's very bad. A lot of ignorant and racist people post (pretty much anytime a vaccine-related article is posted). Almost makes me feel ashamed of where I live, but then again it's not my fault people are like that.

We also have one of the highest circ rates in the nation, imagine that :
