Classica Christian Education -- a ? of fitting it together

I have been studying stuff about The Well trained Mind and also C Mason.

It is all finally comeing together in my head -- adn DH's -- as to the appraoch we are going to take with the boys (and any other kids we are blessed with).

But i am confused as to fitting the Bible / Faith education in.

The 4 year cycle of history as a frame work "works" for us, -- so far i am still getting my mind around it ... espcailly in the younger years

and I can see reading the great men and women of faith -- in each time period --

and I can see fiting in the history of the Church (s) in to each time period .. the Prostant split in 1547 and so on ..

but what i don't quite see is how to fit a Bible Study in . we want to stady the Bible -- at an age app level -- both as Lit and as a historcial document as well as a guide book for life.

so what -- is Bible study just 'outside" the historical frame work that ties together the rest of the subjects?

???

thoughts?

websites?

books?

how do you do it?

I know there is a Christian Classical education curriculum out there! I cam across it in my search for a secular one. For the life of me I can't remember the name or site. off to search some more....

Ok I found the site I was thinking about... http://www.tapestryofgrace.com/index.php

This also might be helpful as well... http://www.classical-homeschooling.org/contents.html

Tapestry gives sample lessons that you can use for ideas if you don't want to buy the whole thing.

I have pretty much come tot he conclusion we will be "creating our own" curr ... with this part or that part of other curriclums ...nothing seems to be all of what we want, yk?

veritas press has an online catalog. you should check it out. it's not a typical packaged curriculum. also, post at the WTM boards. you may find answers there. good luck.

We are classical Christian homeschoolers. We have used Sonlight - the bible curriculum is integrated. Also, there are many history curriculums that incorporate Bible events - Veritas Press timeline cards and the Mystery of History. I love both of those. Is there a Mardel's store near you? They actually carry some of the books like MOH that you can look at before you buy.

We also attend Classical Conversations. www.classicalconversations.com I am a big fan. Their philosophy is "To know Him and to make Him known." We study many things but all from a biblical worldview. I love and believe in learning classically. One thing this program has helped me do that I wasn't doing well at home is staying on track with the memorization during the grammar stage. I'm a big fan of CC in general. It works for us.

that's a great suggestion. i forgot about classical conversations. we have never used it because we aren't classical...but it's incredibly popular here. i think there is a CC group in every town around charlotte!

You know, someone had suggested Weaver to me recently. I am looking at it. Maybe that would help you with what you are looking to do

http://www.aophomeschooling.com/weaver/overview.php

Also, random, but I really like www.oldfashionededucation.com SHe may have some books that would help more with the Bible side of things.

Also a thought- you could check with your church and see if your denomination has anything- I know our church's publisher has materials. Some Sunday School materials also might work.

Ok....since this thread, I found (and fell in love with) www.heartofwisdom.com

It was my answer to fitting way more Bible/Hebrew education into my CM leanings and WTM likes.

As a result we are doing:

a 4 yr rotation for history and science.

CM more than classical.

Heart of Wisdom divides the levels of learning (like WTM has kind of) but it is based on Bible kind of. You really NEED to read Heart of Wisdom book. So many light bulb moments.

The down side is that the author has been extremely ill and is in a battle with cancer. She wrote a year one program for history and such but has not been able to continue with following years.

I am taking her book suggestions, AO, Old fashioned education, and any other sources I want and putting together my own thing for my kids.

Although we are following a Classic type schedule with CM stuff, we are delight based studies. So I present info and the kids decide how into it we get. If they are not so interested, we just briefly graze over it. If they love it, we dive in.

Either way they are being presented the information and are able to choose how to process it.

Hope that makes sense.
