Classica Christian Education -- a ? of fitting it together - Page 2

We are starting to use veritas press as well, and I am finding great discussions with the kids from the reading, etc, that turn into informal Bible study. Also, since memorization is so important in CE, I have been giving ds various memory verses instead of nursery rhymes or such. Last, if you are interested, I just found a Messianic(think Jews for Jesus) children's Torah study. It is a weekly workbook that includes Bible study from the week's readings (2 OT, 1 NT), and includes a litlle Hebrew lesson. It is on First Fruits of Zion's website, www.ffoz.org.

Anyhow, this is how we are integrating Bible study. I like how CE makes study so second-nature, and we're finding the kids absorb so much even just from the discussions that come up. Use those times, and you won't need to worry about where the actual study comes in

I think I remember that your family is Catholic?

If so, have you read Laura Berquist's book, "Designing Your Own Classical Curriculum: A Guide to Catholic Home Education"? I haven't read it myself, as I'm not Catholic, but it occurs to me that it might be of help to you. My understanding is that it has extensive information about religious education.

you are so sweet.

We are not Catholic, I grew up as such but as a family we worship in a Prostant manner.

However, i have that book on my wishlist. i want to read it anyway.

i have to say -- i often wish we were praticing Cathoilcs one of the reasons is that the education is so laid out for you, and their are so many resources.

Trying to peice together the same "level" on your own (my own) is tough.

We use Ambleside.

For Bible, we are working through a Westminster Catechism. I also have read through A Faith to Grown On by John MacArthur. We've read books like "What would Jesus Do? for kids" I'm also reading with him a book called "Wisdom and the Millers"

He is in AWANA (Bible club) and we use the verses he needs to learn there for Scripture memory.

Also sometimes, we just read through the Bible. If I can find it, I have a list that has the passages listed in order for major themes or stories in the Bible.

PM if you want that and I'll dig it up.
