But the reality is this: the AAP knows that its relationship with infant formula companies violates all kinds of ethical boundaries, as well as international agreements. So instead of wanting to openly talk about what they are doing in this regard, they are ashamed, only speaking of it when “outed” by others, and then only doing so in a defensive, legalistic way. When your message is coming from a negative, uncomfortable place like this, simply having a Twitter feed or a blog talking about other stuff (while ignoring the giant white elephant in the room) won’t do you a lick of good.
Yeah, I can't wait till the AAP tries to twitter or whatever this one (I'll bet they don't)... I'd like to see the comments, blog-responses, etc to that(-;

It's sad but I agree. I worked so hard as a peer breastfeeding counselor and in the breastfeeding task force for quite a few years and it really seems that the last year breastfeeding has been put through the ringer.

I just don't get it. Are people so lazy and swayed by the formula companies that they choose it over breastfeeding? Talking to people with new babies, it just seems that breastfeeding is not on their agenda at all.

The difference is that:
1. Dr. Jay Gordon is outspoken about those things and it would be a complete lie to say he supports those things
2. The AAP is "supportive" of breastfeeding, but they accept money from formula companies.
3. If you took the joke seriously, IT MAKES THE AAP LOOK GOOD by saying they are getting rid of a major ethical eyesore and taking their own advice. It would make Dr. Gordon look BAD to all of a sudden go against his personal philosophies.

There might not be any legal difference, but it makes a lot of difference to me as a lactivist.
