coconut

Once dd gets back to baseline I would really like to try coconut with her. Her fat sources are SO limited and I would really like to start using coconut oil on her pancakes and other things. Plus, it would be nice to give her some coconut milk as well and use it to make myself some ice cream :

My question, what is the best way to trial this with her? In case it matters, she has definite allergies to wheat, dairy, egg, peanut, soy, banana, and avocado. I am also pretty sure she has allergies to tomatoes and corn. I also avoid nuts and most seeds for the time being (I plan on putting these back in one at a time but want to try the coconut first). Is it best to spread some of the oil on something she is eating? Or, give her a spoonful of the milk? Or, would you recommend I start by eating it regularly myself as a first step?

Thanks a million!!

If she's doing solids, I'd try it on her first. Because if you trial it through you, and she reacts, then it's going to be a few days before it clears out of you. Know what I mean? Why don't you do a smoothie with other things she likes in it, and add some coconut milk to it? Will she drink that kind of thing?

When I reintroduce foods I like to do it in a measured, isolated fashion. So much of this is a huge mystery to me, I still can't definitively correlate many of DS's flare ups to specific foods. But I try. We used to do a lot of coconut milk. When I brougt it back I just added it to our morning rice mush like he used to have. I did not want to eat it myself because like Kathy said it just adds to the confusion.

Thanks for the insight. I am such a wimp and that is why I thought of testing her through me. She won't have a really severe scary reaction if she gets it through me, but like you said it makes it not only more mysterious, but also longer lasting should she have one. Well, I am hoping we are marching our way toward baseline as we get the tomato out of our systems so hopefully next week sometime I can test.

i want to test this next for my DD---should I be worried about the guar gum as a stabilizer in the canned coconut milks? this is what I use--I think I will put it in a "smoothie" w/the other fruits she is ok with.
