Is there a way to give a gentle bath? My LO (6 weeks) freaks out when she gets one. We bathe her in a baby bath chair/sling in the kitchen sink.

Have you tried taking her in the shower with you? I don't know if that would be any better, but my LO's liked it from very early on.

And really, at 6 weeks I would think a bath is only necessary every once in a while. I mean, how dirty can they get? Maybe a sponge bath during a diaper change when needed?

She might be cold. Is she submerged in the water? A great tip is to wet a washcloth in warm water and drape it accross her belly. Warm it up as needed.

But I agree that she probably doesn't need a lot of baths. Once or twice a week is plenty at that age unless you are dealing with poop-splosions.

i too bathed that way with all of mine, right from day one. we bathed together usually by candle light every evening... not for cleanliness but for the simple joy of being wet and naked together in a warm bath :happysigh i miss bathing with my lo's

Baby girl hated, hated, hated getting a bath in the sink or anything like that. She would only do showers and even those not too willingly some of the time. But ever since I sat down in the tub with her the second time (about 6 months old; we don't have a tub at home so trying it has been sporadic), she's loved it.

She can sit on her own now, which I think really helped. I put her on my legs, not in the water and then I played with the water and then I made her feet splash the water too. After that, she was all about the bath tub. Too bad we still don't have one at home .

Us too. DS loves it! I get in first and then lower him in slowly. He likes when I support the back of his head/shoulders and let him float and flail his limbs around, splashing. Super fun!

Great pic, btw!

Also, we started out trying to do the whole sponge-bath in a baby bather. I'm now convinced those are just one more stupid baby thing to spend money on, because he did not like it at all. We went right to the co-bathing thing after the first two attempts in a baby bath. Much easier and more pleasant for everyone!

Mine hated them until around 5.5 months, and we tried everything! What really helped was doing it in the morning instead of the evening-he didn't get nearly as upset then.

We always take baths with our little ones in the tub. Much more fun swimming with mommy and daddy than all alone! HTH!

Eh, I think baths on newborns are over rated. DD2 acted like a cat near water for her first year of life, I'd get one drop of water on the child and she'd scream like I was pulling her toe nails off. I'd just wipe her down with a warm wash rag and call it good. I'm pleased to say that now she is 2.5y old and loves water.

Ok, so I want to take a bath with my baby, but what temp should the water be? I'm afraid that I'll be freezing cold! I really like to take hot baths (which is easily fixed b/c once he's done I can just add hot water) but I don't know how warm I can make the bath for little Lincoln.

Remember that the womb is a toasty almost 100 degrees

I always take pretty warm baths. nothing that has a 'hot bite' to it, if that makes any sense, but definitely warm enough for me to be comfy!

7yoDD always loved super hot baths with me, bbDD likes them a little cooler but still warm enough that I'm ok. Babies DEFINITELY wouldn't want it cool...they'd get so cold!!!

Its not the most obvious thing - but try making the water warmer. My DS likes the water actually quite warm for a baby.

We also got this - it left our hands free and supported him well. Its kind ...well hard and plasticy so I would put a towel over it so he was laying on something soft. You can't go wrong with micro fleece! (the softest towels in the world! hehe). Ours fitted in a baby bath and the big bath! We used that until he could sit up. I wanted both my hands free - really free. And due to reflux - we were bathers once a day...or twice! lol

Of course we often would do a bath together and still do - but thats more for closeness and play rather than actual getting clean! Never was a fan of the shower - DS is fightened of them. Though I have a lovely water ring sling now I plan to use with my next and hopefully they will like the shower! hehe

Okay, tonight I gave sharing the tub a shot. The actual bath part went great. She really mellowed out and seemed to start to enjoy being in there with me. I could see us having many wonderful nights bathing together... However, she was shrieking before the bath and screaming bloody murder when we took her out (some of the worst crying I've heard from her). Is there any way to make baby-to-bath/baby-out-of-bath transfer go any smoother.

Its probably because she is cold.... You take her clothes off to get in the bath and yikes - the screaming starts. Shes in the bath with you...shes fine. You take her out...brrrrrr!.... Try having a warm towel - lay her on that whist you take her clothes off and have another (well the same - just re-warmed) towel ready for her for when its time to come out!

Even I want to cry when I have to get out of a warm tub into colder air.

Lol so do I - we have a radiator in our bathroom so I put my towel on that...is so lovely getting out of the bath to a nice hot dry towel waiting for me! hehe
