When could your child identify colours? - Page 2

I remember asking my son's teacher this his first year of school, when he was 2 going on 3 - he may have been 3 by then... he didn't seem to know them all, and I was concerned, since my dad is color blind.

She said he was perfectly on track and normal as far as that went... he knew some, didn't always get them right, but knew a lot of them...

Learned a few months ago he is color blind!!!

I really don't know whether or not it mattered back then. He tended to say everything was purple - but once he learned he never had anything wrong, I had no inkling he was color blind. It was a mystery.

Anyway - I *think* it's normal at 3 to be iffy on the colors - but my kid might be weird!!!

So this afternoon I tried to do the colour match thing. I pulled out a coloured block, identified the colour, and asked him to find a matching one. He managed to do it with all six colours in my block set. So that seems to rule out any issues with colour blindness, which is great.

He has only been in my home a couple of months, so I am not sure how much practice he has. We will continue to work at it, and let him develop at his own pace. Thanks again to the mama who suggested it, I really didn't want to freak out his mom for no reason.

And thanks to the mama who posted that link about teaching colours. I will definitely incorporate some of those ideas.
