Major Deodorant Issues...Help Please!!

I have been using the Crystal roll on for about two years now and have loved it. No problems at all. About a month and a half ago, I started getting really itchy under my arms. I developed red bumps and it burned, especially if I exercised and got sweaty. I stopped using it and used just coconut oil and it cleared right up. I waited about a week, threw out the deodorant and bought a new one in case there was bacteria or something causing the problem. I tried it again and within a couple hours, it was happening again. Back to coconut oil.

I bought the crystal spray because it's missing cellulose as an ingredient, I thought I'd see if it made a difference, but it didn't.

Coconut oil does not work for me. Not alone anyway. Before the crystal I was using a mixture of coconut oil, cornstarch and baking soda, but developed irritation from that as well.

I really don't want to buy conventional deo/anti-perspirant again. I can't figure out why I'm having a reaction like this. The crystal roll on has three ingredients plus water. Any ideas of what I can use?

Yeah, most natural deodorants are crummy. I've had good luck with the essential oil based ones like Burt's Bees (what I use everyday) and Weleda (more $$). Neither work as an antiperspirant though. The only caveat is to not use the ones with sage oil if you're breastfeeding 'cause they can dry up milk.

I use the Crystal roll-on too and I like it. That's too bad that your skin is being irritated by something in it. Using plain coconut oil doesn't work for me either, but I wish it did. My mom placed an order from mountainroseherbs.com and bought me some Nourish Wild Greens Deodorant, so I started using that recently and I've been impressed with how well it works (comparable to the Crystal). The ingredients seem good to me Contains: Organic Cocoa Butter, Coconut Oil, Organic Beeswax, Organic Corn Starch, Organic Shea Butter, Organic Saccharomyces Ferment, Organic Milk Thistle Extract, Organic Hibiscus Extract, Organic Meadowsweet Extract, and a blend of organic essential oils.

I wonder if a mixture of coconut oil and cornstarch would be effective enough without the baking soda. I think the baking soda is what caused the irritation a couple years ago.

I also jsut bought this (in orange) and love it so far. I was using a mineral liquid deoderant. http://www.lafes.com/organicdeodorants.html It worked fine for regular sweat. I haven't used it through the summer though. Also, when I had that nervous kind of sweat? It didn't work at all.

I also jsut noticed that the Lafe was starting to stain in the armpits of my white shirts. No deoderant natural or nasty chemical has ever done that.

The orange one from MRH works great so far.

You could always go back to the coconut oil, corn starch, and bs with less bs. maybe 1 bs to 2 cs? or even 3 cs?
