Aberdeen, SD?

DH is laid off and job hunting. We've had a call for a job near Aberdeen so I thought I'd come here and ask... Anyone familiar with this area at all? It was not on our list of 1st choices but then we've moved around a lot and can be pretty flexible.
I'm interested in secular home schooling, other natural living minded families, and home birth. Mostly, I just want to know if I'll be able to find like minded Mamas and kids for us to hang out with.

I have not lived there for some time, but I think Aberdeen is a nice town. There are bound to be a few more open-minded mamas there with NSU being there. There is a pretty active art community.
I know a few people who live there, I will ask around.

We're in a very closed minded, mostly "mainstream" community now and any move away from that would be a good thing for us.

hey! i live in aberdeen. the town isnt that large..but that's why i like it...a fast paced life is not for me! i'm busy enough chasing my children!
but there is definately a small niche of like-minded, self-aware individuals here...we're not too hard to find...there is a social/cultural hub of a coffee house here as well as a natural foods store (kiddy-corner to the coffeehouse)

Oh man, I miss the Red Rooster.

I honestly don't know much about Aber, it had a Walmart and was the nearest, biggest town when I went to college. I didn't get into NFL until I had my first baby, much later.

Maggirayne, when did you go there? My DH went to Northern and I lived there with him briefly before moving back to ND.

Well, there doesn't seem to be much activity here on Mothering from Mammas in Aberdeen but I figure I've got to try every avenue.

We've made a decision to accept the job offer for DH and are moving late July for an Aug 1 move in date. I'm having a lot of trouble finding a house to rent. Anyone with any suggestions for houses to rent in Aberdeen, please post or pm me!!!!

I went to college up in Ellendale, not at Northern, hence, I don't really know Aber.
