Ok, Im a newbie clothie here. . .lol I am cloth diapering my baby when he/she comes in october and am wanting to make some cloth wipes also. What is the best material to make them out of? I dont own a sewing machine, although I do know how to sew and my mom has one if I absolutely have to sew. Can I use a pinking shears? Any hints, tips?

I agree that I don't think they'd hold up if you don't sew them. Some people just use washcloths. Mine I make from 2 layers of flannel and surge them (8x8), but you could also turn and top-stitch them... Off the top of my head, I can't think of a good soft, absorbant fabric that won't unravel with lots of washes...hmmmm.

when DD was wee I used baby washcloths, then when I saw a killer sale at Target I stocked up on regular ones (I have like 10 doz) and I use those now. I use them for everything, diaper changes, washing her face and hands, quick clean ups. I wash them similar to my diapers with super hot water.

I have some wipes that I bought used on ebay (long ago) that are made out of a hemp/cotton blend fabric. The person just cut and serged the edges. They have held up magnificently. They are soft, but rough enough to get the poop. I can clean up pretty much any poop with one or two wipes. A three wiper is rare

I bought regular, $3 a yard flannel and cut it up. It frayed the first wash but has been fine since. They're not thick and fluffy but that hasn't bothered me. Its been over a year with themnow and they are holding up just fine.

My first batch lasted for 2 kids.
I made a fresh batch to welcome my 3rd & he's almost two now & the wipes are faded, but still going strong.
