Article/Text describing proper care of the uncircumcised penis

Hello All - Hoping you can help me out. I apologize if this is an often posted request, I don't have time to search through old threads tonight. Moderator if this is in the wrong place feel free to move it.

My 2 yo DS is sick with the stomach flu and if we don't get a handle on the diarrhea and vomiting soon I fear we have an ER visit in our future. Our wonderful holistic doc is helping us try to avoid this, but if DS gets dehydrated enough we won't have a choice.

We have only been to the ER once in his life (at 3 months of age) and the minute the doctor found out he was intact he immediately assumed DS had a urinary tract infection. He insisted on catheterizing him - for an upper respiratory infection mind you - we refused. Finally we said they could put a bag on him to get a clean catch urine specimen - we agreed to that as long as there was no retraction of the foreskin. He said fine. Then the nurse came in to attach the clean catch bag and retracted his foreskin while cleaning his penis. UGH. : I was so annoyed. When I addressed it with the nurse and doctor they told me the rule about not retracting foreskin was only for parents, not for doctors and nurses. :: Such patronizing nonsense.

Anyway...in the hopes of avoiding an issue, I was hoping to bring a medical text or journal article on care of a intact penis with me to the hospital if we have to go. I am a nurse myself so I know text aimed at medical professionals will carry more weight than anything else.

Sorry for the long post. But if anyone knows of or can direct me to an article I would really really appreciate it.

You should have enough pamphlets to take with you. I'm sorry your son was forcibly retracted in the past and that he is so ill right now.

Small teaspoons of fluids here and there should avoid the dehydration. Usually when they are that ill it is best to give them a very tiny amount of fluid at a time to prevent vomiting and furthering the dehydration.

If you do take him to the ER don't let anyone touch his penis. They should have no reason to touch it.

Thanks for the suggestions on the fluids tutucrazy. We have been doing 5ml of fluid from a dropper every 10 minutes for the past 7 hours and he is still vomiting every 30 minutes or so. We are waiting/hoping for another wet diaper in the next hour or so. Fingers crossed for the wet diaper
