First, brown blood is usually old. Implantation has to occur for hcg to be produced, which would be 6-12 dpo. It is entirely possible that you just tested a little early, considering your short cycle. I would wait 3 or 4 more days and test again with you first morning urine if AF does not show. Good luck.

I sounds like it could have been implantation bleeding. I never had it, so I'm not sure if it's usually brown or red or both?

I would wait a few more days to test, just in case so you don't waste a bunch of tests. What day do you think you ovulated? Some brands will show positive 10dpo, but it can vary from woman to woman too. I like e.p.t... I tested + ten days after O with ds.
