Ammonia

Hi Mama
I have a question
I use bamboozle diapers http://www.bummis.com/en/Products/covers/Bamboozle.html which are bamboo, and while they absorb a lot and have never leaked they are stinky!
They smell strongly of ammonia after one wearing.
I have tried to wash them without detergent then with, and they still are stinky after one night. I use Charlie's soap and have a HE washer.
Help please!

Not sure, my dipes smell like ammonia too, but I think it's ds' pee cause they don't smell when clean and his bum is nice and clear. My bamboozles smell like a wet dog when wet even after 3 months of regular use.

I have Charlie's and an HE washer and had ammonia problems. Adding liquid Calgon has pretty completely eliminated all ammonia smells because we have hard water. Do you have hard water? If so, try adding 1/4 capfull (this small amount is because you have an HE washer) along with the 1 scoop of Charlie's (do NOT skimp on detergent-- Charlie's is totally water soluble so you never have to worry about it being too much, but there's always the possibility of bacteria build-up, which is why it's important to use the full amount of a good-rinsing detergent like Charlie's) to your hot wash. Then, make sure your final rinse is a warm one. I've found this is pretty important with an HE washer (to make up for the reduced amount of water).

Hope that helps.
