Need info to show a friend - please help?

I seem to remember there being a thread that spelled out the entire anti-circ argument in one neat bundle - could anyone direct me to it please? I would like to show it to a friend considering circumcision.

Although it really is a multi-headed monster -- she may be totally worried about disease, or not care at all and really care about the locker room, or might not care about the locker room but think she'll have so much cleaning to do....it really is best to have a conversation and find out what her reasons are specifically so you can address those.

It has been suggested by her son's urologist because he is having problems. I know after speaking with her about it and inviting her here that it is not a decision she is taking lightly.

OK, so this is an already-born baby instead of a newborn facing RIC.

I would find out if at all possible what the alleged reasons are because the only true medical indications for circumcision are cancer of the foreskin, gangrene, and frostbite.

If it's UTIs, phimosis, infections, or some other issue....all of these are solveable with measures far less drastic than amputation.

She needs to know that most US urologists are sadly uninformed of the functions of the foreskin and the fact that it's generally not to blame for many health issues that get blamed on the foreskin.

The library of medical papers and analyses at www.cirp.org are very helpful in debunking some of the most common medical reasons given for recommending circ (UTIs, balanitis, phimosis, etc.)

There is also a lot of information there (based on peer-reviewed articles published in reputable medical journals) on the functions and value of the foreskin.

She needs to ask herself this question to put it in perspective -- if her daughter were having any of the same issues, would she go along with a medical recommendation to amputate part of her daughter's genitals to solve the problem?

Because girls and boys get the same problems -- UTIs, yeast infections, adhesions, what have you -- but get very different recommendations for treatment -- for NO legitimate medical reason.

Thanks. I'll keep talking to her about it. It feels strange talking about someone on a forum, especially when I've invited her here so she can discuss it herself, so I won't post lots of detail because I'm not sure she'd be comfortable with that. Thank you for the information though I will definately pass everything along to her and hope it helps her deal with the urologist.
