He was born into the water in our living room with no problems. Labour was crazy intense and it never ceases to amaze me how we women do that!
He's the most mellow baby I could imagine. He hasn't cried yet, he just makes loud purring sounds. So, dh was content going with the name Luke as long as it was in the sense of 'cool hand luke', lol.
The midwives arrived just after dinner time yesterday evening (Friday). They were Canucks fans so we all enjoyed watching the hockey game, lol. I got checked and a sweep at around 8pm and I was 3cm. At 11pm I was still only 4cm, but mostly thinned out and m/w did another sweep and stretch. Then it got crazy really fast. I got into the pool for transition, got out to get checked at 12:30am and while out I had a contraction that fully dialated me. I got my m/w to break my water and I got back into the pool just in time to push him out in two absolutely intense and incredible pushes. I'm still in awe at my body. Luke was on my chest by 12:37am.
Ds1 (7) was there just like he wanted to be and he cut the cord. He was so adorable and kept saying the most precious things. Dh was great dealing with the pool and letting me boss him around during transition. And although he made me laugh far too much in the middle of contractions, it felt good to have him keep my mood light. And the midwives were fantastic, too - just the right amount of fun, laughter, and caring.
Luke nursed for ages once we were out of the pool. Thomas was right by my side for most of this time. He couldn't get enough of his little brother.
He's super rosy red, with light coloured fuzz on his head. He weighed just 7lbs 4oz, thankfully.
I'm still in shock about it all. I really wasn't ready for him to come yet. I hadn't anticipated it enough. I just assumed he would be late and it's still so sureal that I have another baby lying beside me right now. Ds2 met him when he woke up this morning and was totally all over him. He loved him instantly and gave him all kinds of kisses. We're all so in love
