Thoughts on hydroponic farming?

Anything to beware of? I go to a local farm that ONLY has this form of farming and I thought people on this board might now more about it than anyone else!
They don't say what is in the "secret mixture" and that kind of puts me off.

I'd want to know if the nutrients are chemical or organic.

My first thought was "unsustainable."
How are they going to be able to grow anything if they can't get their hands on their "secret mixture?"
Maybe I'm just boring and like my regular ole rock/dirt out in the yard (well, minus the rocks, but you know what I mean), and compost as need be.

I too am not fond of things when folks won't tell me ingredients of things. Although I don't share all the ingredients of my grandma's secret recipe relish or my other grandma's secret recipe cookies, but since my kids suck it all down, most folks that receive those goodies don't fuss much.

IMO a farmer should have nothing to hide. in growing there should be no secrets. at farmer's market all the vendors are happy to share their practices. the hydro farm should be sharing everything and even encouraging their customers to try to grow their own. i would not trust them.
