New to CDing and ready to start- do I buy a package or a few of each?

From what I have read, I think we are going to go with pocket diapers (most likely BG). Should I buy the 12 pack of BG? Or a few of each of the popular pockets and then complete my stash with my favorite of those? Does this even make sense?

I saw an offer on some website (Jillians drawers?) that offers a money back guarantee if you don't like the BG. Any other offer like this? I would like to stick with pockets or AIOs.

My DD is now 5 weeks old and 12 lbs. I have never CDd before but am so ready to start now!

Thanks for any advice!!

I would say buy a few of each diaper you want to try so you can figure out what works for you. Then you can sell the ones you don't like and buy more of the ones you do!

i would go ahead and buy a pack....assuming you do like them then you don't have to go to the trouble to sell 3 of these and three of those and three of the other plus buy more more of what you did like

it would be easy enough to sell a pack if you really don't like them though

A lot of people recommended that I buy a variety of diapers to see what I like first, but I just didn't feel like I had the money to experiment. I ended up buying a pack of fuzzi bunz and figured I would make them work until such a time as I could re-sell them and buy something else if I really hated them.

Well, I've never looked back. I LOVE our fuzzi bunz.

So my experience is that you do what your gut tells you to do. Fuzzi bunz appealed to me from the get-go and were the real reason I first started even looking at CD'ing. I just really, really felt that I would be happy with them. So if you think BGs are the ticket for you, buy a bunch. The worst thing that could happen is that you're not thrilled with them and decide to resell them and get some other diapers.

I would suggest a mix.
Even if you don't have a budget for sampling you can get a chunk of some and a little or one or two of another and still feel your way through the options. You can buy some gently used to offset the budget some.

While some love synthetic diapers such as Fuzzi Bunz there are about another 50% it seems that their children don't tolerate the synthetic fibers. So what seems to be the love of one and maybe even yourself, the child still makes the final determination about cloth compatibility, size, fit and soaker needs.

The don't put all your eggs or investments in one place also is a fitting application to diapers as well.

I agree with Ifluffedthree - I have a variety of diapers, styles and brands and have gone through phases of liking different things for different reasons. Different brands definately fit and hold up differently. I"m glad I tried several kinds.

My favorite pocket is Tiny Tush - I've tried about 6 brands. But more and more I reach for my fitteds with a good cover! I just feel like they hold stuff in better.

It's totally up to you, and it's true that cloth dipes have a good resale value. But I always vote for trying a few different things to see what you like and what fits your babe and family.

Thanks for all the advice! I think I will buy a 6 pack of BGs and a few others at first. I forgot that resale value for diapers is high so I can recoup some of the $ if needed.
