vaccines and traveling

Thread Starter
I have chosen not to vaccinate my now 18 month old son. We were hoping to go to costa rica this summer to visit a friend but my ex says we cannot legally without vaccines. Is this true and/or can anyone direct me to some web sites with information on this issue? My ex never really fully supported the vaccine decision so I am not sure if he just want to make our son get vaccines or if he just doesnt want us to go on vacation to costa.

Here is the WHO travel requirements to Costa Rica.

Unless you are traveling FROM an endemic country, it appears that no vaccines are required.

Not true.

You and your child can travel anywhere in the world without vaccines although different countries sell their own fear-mongering - I meant vaccines - to visitors.

That may be true for people living in the US but for people living in countries that have a risk of Yellow Fever transmission this may not be true. Many countries REQUIRE that if one is travelling to their country from another country where there is risk of Yellow Fever transmission than they must present a vaccination certificate. Some countries allow for medical exemptioms, some do not. I think Yellow Fever is the only vaccine that has these requirements.

NO, it is not true.

Vacation plans aside, it sounds like the two of you need to sort through this better. It is a terrible strain on a marriage not to agree on parenting choices. I have watched several friends go through this exact struggle.

In every instance, the couple was never really arguing about the vaxes, but the vax decision focused on all of the weakest dynamics in their marriage. Don't worry, some of these friends are seeing real strides of progress because they are prioritizing it with counseling and date nights.

The OP said this is her ex, so ... their marriage is not the problem

Missed a detail there, but the point is still valid!

I think the vax debate within a marriage or a former marriage is usually a struggle of power.
