That second listing is funny.

And I want an Excalibur dehydrator too.

Pat, in fantasy land. I'll go check Craig's list some more! But, we'd need a bigger kitchen for all of these gadgets and we don't have the counter space. So, I have my MIL's 30-year old Oster blender which 'works' fine.

Wow, (with envy) and Wow! at the price. That is a great price.

(I'd like a basement too. LOL) I generally don't have such a long 'wish list'. I need to get outside and plant the garden. Focus on what I do have, with gratitude. :

Anyhow, yesterday, about a week and a half later, I got a new remedy for Adam in the mail. No instructions or anything. Just the remedy with the dosage on the label. I sent her an email yesterday asking what I should do but I haven't heard back.

Isn't that odd? I am dismayed that she doesn't communicate better.
Not only odd but annoying as well. I wouldn't start the next one until I communicated directly with her. And explain that you didn't stop the other one since she hadn't told you to. I would actually talk and ask to speak directly to her.

DD2 painted the basement (6 quarts of paint in rainbow colors that were supposed to be for her room) and herself while I was reconciling my bank account. I've just scrubbed for an hour. She just decided to put herself to bed for a nap. I'm resting my back for a few minutes before I go back down to scrub some more (also got it on the beautiful wood floor down there in the finished portion, and the doorknob, and little orange footprints leading to the foyer...). On the bright side, I guess I don't have to paint her room anymore!

I'm thinking I might make this when I have a reason to do.

My mother has a dehydrator and she did a lot last summer. I wasn't really impressed with the results. But I'm going to be canning a lot more this summer I think. I made some good safe refrigerator pickles the other day (DS and DD2 didn't like them so I get them all).

Good to know it's not just us. DD slept a grand total of 20 minutes yesterday. : And she has been stuck to me (or screaming and tantruming) since.we.woke.up this morning. We definitely will not be having eggs today.

I remembered you talking about the duck eggs, and I think I might go on the hunt for some. Maybe those will work out better for us too.

Interesting. I've had weird reactions to supplements too, and it took me a while to figure out what they were from. I'm glad you figured it out! And that they're giving you a refund- that's very cool.

Well... he switched her from medh to apis a few weeks ago (because of the ana reaction I guess), but I don't feel like it's doing anything. So I'm going to ask him if I can switch her back to the medh, because it seemed to be working, at least initially. Maybe we need to go to the higher dose or something.

Yes- that is weird. And would annoy me. But my homeopath is pretty similar- he's not so good with the instructions. But at least he tells me if he's mailing me something.

Very cool.

Hey, speaking of dehydrators... could I (if I had one) make lamb jerky? I've never heard of, or seen, jerky from lamb. I wonder why not? Seeing as how it's our only meat, it would be nice to have a grab-and-go snack.

And related to that- I'm suddenly panicking (after a few days of sunshine) about how to transition to summer foods. I cook 3 meals a day. All of our food is hot. I don't think I can handle doing that all summer!!

What are some veggies that a toddler (with 1/2 a molar) could eat raw? I need some better raw food ideas for us.

CS- only with the help of supps can DS eat egg yolk. I got lax before and after the move. At dinner he ate one egg yolk and his face immediately got blotchy. I also got itchy. He can't do whites.
I really hope you can find a solution for yourself.

Have you seen this one? http://www.virginialamb.com/products.html
You'd have to call and ask for ingredients though.

Can you do beets? If you have a safe vinegar, you could make pickled beets. And if you have cucumbers, you can make pickles with same vinegar. What are your foods? Maybe we could figure out a new combination?

Chlobo, if you haven't done it already, you need to find the old posts from PB on making cookies in a dehydrator. I think it's basically fruit, spices, maybe nuts, all processed together and then dehydrated instead of baked, so it can be all raw, and like a treat, but a) grain-free, and b) healthy enough to not feel guilty over. I'm going to try some baked versions that I've seen recipes for, since I want this grain-free thing to work for all of us. That looks like a rocking dehydrator, once we're more settled, I'm going to seriously consider a dehydrator. Be nice for nuts/seeds too, but for now, I am happy roasting my pumpkin seeds. They are tasty.

Pat--for better or worse, you inspired me. The vitamix was still available, I asked DH to stop by on his way back to work after lunch (he comes home almost every day). So, I am going to think of cooling smoothies, I think I'm actually going to start with watermelon and mint (need ideas for other stuff), I think both would be good for DH. In a TCM sense, he has damp heat stuff going on, and a) Houston summer is not a good time for that, but b) I think he's feeling enough better (relatively speaking) that I can try new stuff. I've been feeding him kimchee every day, and so far he says he doesn't feel worse, so yay! So I need to figure out cooling, drying foods (that are good blended).

You should be able to, CS (make lamb jerky). I'm not sure what you'd do for flavoring though, unless you made a really strong salt brine and added some pepper maybe? (Can you have pepper?) You can make jerky in the oven too, although I've never done it because I understand it can be pretty messy. My dad did it once when I was a kid (I remember because my mom slept on the couch for like a week afterwards).
What I'd really love to have eventually is a smoke house (no, I'm not old school... I have no desire to own a spring house either... ).

Last I knew, CS was vinegar-less. She could do fermented beets, I guess, but I find them gross.
Tanya, in one of these chat threads, I'm pretty sure that PB posted her green lemonade recipe.

I got my vita-mix on craigslist for $90. It's the stainless steel commercial maxi-4000 version. I have to mix smoothies in the mud room because the noise scares the babe. I think the newer ones are quieter. I must have attracted it though because I looked on a whim and happened to be the first to call the guy (he had 6 other people phone him that day).

I also think I remember PB saying she did juice at first b/c her gut couldn't handle the fiber but *now* she does the vita-mix for just about everything.

Eggs - I am wondering on this - maybe the reaction we've been having is to what the chickens are fed? Soy? I guess I am just hoping that eggs could be back in our lives if we had them from lovely pastured bug-eating hens.

I have totally been lusting after a dehydrator - especially for making jerky. They have fairly cheap ones at target and such. 40-70 bucks I think, depending. But yuck, all that plastic. (eta: I AM jealous, chlobo! that looks incredible!)

ellasmama - I have never felt a complain-y vibe from you at all. If anything I am awed by your lack thereof and awesome sense of humor! Sorry you are sick.

We're sick too. All of us congested and sore throats and such. I'm actually grateful we've all got it, otherwise I would be worried I've been adding too many supp.s or something (pascalite, biotin, chlorophyll). Lucky that DH got it too.

I don't think my remedy is doing anything either.

This is getting rambly, I know, but I want to share. I went out and *bought* spring water yesterday to make that flower essence - hopefully to make many. It was so beautiful - I even took pictures. And then I stepped in it.

I also got a gigantic jar for kefir. I hope it isn't too unwieldy, but I'm actually thinking it could make things a LOT easier. It holds 4 gallons.

Hmmm... were you looking at the lamb sticks? Those only come in flavors, and it says they have preservatives added... so I'm just going to guess they're a no.

Current foods- lamb, buckwheat (I tried to go paleo and failed... I was starving to death), palm shortening, blueberries, grapes, zucchini, broccoli, carrots, cauliflower, potatoes seem ok on an occasional basis... I'm sure I'm forgetting something.

Nope, no vinegars. I have made the NT fermented beets, but they are way too salty... not too bad other than that. Why don't you like them JR?

Instead of vinegar, you can Lacto-ferment them. You know, just water and salt. i have to mix my fermented beets in with my sauerkraut, but i'm working on lowering the ratio until i have just beets. i'm thinking i made mine too salty... i used the wild fermentation "recipe" instead of sally fallon's, but i don't know that i had the amount of beets i thought i had.

also, we've made buffalo jerky before; i don't know why you couldn't make lamb jerky? you could also try little (like, tsp sized) lamb meat balls? grab 'n' go?

okay, i think i need to win some sort of TF medal here... I made buffalo heart kebobs (antichuchos from NT) last night and.... we loved them!! : lily specifically asked for some for lunch today.
