Now that I'm a mother, I'm kind of addicted to memoirs written by mothers, or anthologies of woman/mother writers, and that sort of thing.

I am reading these now:
Baby Love - Rebecca Walker
The Mask of Motherhood - forget
The Balanced Mom
Choosing you -

:] See, addicted

But I'd like to do a library run tom. and get tons more

Your favs?

One of my favorite "mom books" is called Waiting for Birdy: A Year of Frantic Tedium, Neurotic Angst, and the Wild Magic of Growing a Family. It's written by a wonderful, natural, AP mom and it's all about her experiences with her toddler, while pregnant with her second. She is a very gifted storyteller and you will just fly through this book.

You might like Mothers and Sons, by Colm Toibin, a collection of his short stories. Unsentimental, bittersweet, Irish-oriented like all of Colm Toibin. This anthology is fiction having to do with sons and their mothers, and it is not light reading but serious literature. I recommend it.

The Blue Jay's Dance - Louise Ehrdrich
And I second Waiting for Birdy.

Here are some good ones:
Anne Lamott's Opeating Instructions
Mother's Who Think- collection of essays
Ayun Halliday- The Big Rumpus

I think I have a few more faves.... I'll post if I can remember them.

I was reading along, waiting to post Lamott's Operating Instructions. She's a single mom, and has had a very crazy life but is Christian... so the book is very interesting as she deals with this baby she loves, but he's very high needs and she's doing it with no regular partner.

I love Lamott. She sounds a little neurotic, which I guess is why I relate to her so much :

I would also recommend her non-Mommy books. Nonfiction- Bird by Bird if you are a writer your self, and Blue Shoe (fiction) whose main character is a mother too.
