New to CD maybe!

I need some help and/or advice! ds is 18 months old, and I have been really thinking about how much I regret not using cd. My question is, is it too late? He is nowhere near ready to use the potty. Anyone else use sposies and then swicth over? How hard is it? What are the good brands? Any advice would be much appreciated! TIA!

I switched over about 14 months ago with my youngest two. I'd never really heard much about modern CD'ing before then. I don't regret switching for a minute, even though my son only wore the cloth diapers for a few months before potty training (he was 2 when we switched). I bought medium (for my son) and small (for my daughter) fuzzi bunz, knowing they have good resale value. As it turns out, we've got another babe on the way so the diapers will be put to use quite a bit, but if not I would just sell them used and be pleased with even 40% of what I paid because we've certainly gotten our money's worth-- not just in what we've saved not using disposables, but also in time (no more last-minute stops at the store for diapers!!!) and health. You could easily get a very inexpensive cloth setup for around $100-$150 by purchasing prefolds and PUL covers. Pockets like fuzzi bunz will cost more initially, but they also have great resale value so you can often recoup some of your costs. It really is up to you-- what's most important (ease, cost, etc.)-- but I definitely would encourage you to give it a go. I never would have thought I'd love CD'ing as much as I do! It's addicting once you start.

I totally agree with Brietta. I didn't discover cloth right away but am sooooo happy that I switched. There are so many benefits.

There can be a learning curve, so if that happens, don't get discouraged, you'll be a pro before long!

There are tons of styles and types, depending on what is important to you. A lot of people love pocket diapers, I'm a fan of fitteds with covers, and some people love prefolds with covers (the cheapest route).

I always recommend you try a few different brands and styles so you can discover what you like and what fits your baby well.

I agree it's definitly not too late! Especially if you might have another or more. We switched when DD was 9 months and with DS, we've started from Day 1 - literally! We started out trying a few different kinds.

How big is your son? Knowing that would make a difference for diaper recommendations.

My son was older and about the same size. Large Fuzzibunz worked great for us.

i got medium fuzzibunz, mother ease, and a handmade one from a consignment store in asheville. I got a variety just to see which ones I like. I think everyone in our house hates the mother ease. They are horrible leakers. But fuzzibunz are awesome! Thanks! No more sposies here! I also went our and bought a yard of fabric and made my own wipes! I can't believe it is so easy and i didn't think of it before!
